Hakase is a member of the Cosmo Samurai, a vigilante group that keep the system safe from space pirates and other extraterrestrial threats. He is one of the protagonists of the non-canonical Toonami Total Immersion Events Cosmo Samurai and Cosmo Samurai 2. Hakase is voiced by Kousuke Goto.
History
Background
Hakase was formerly a human physicist that at some point in the past created TOM. He was later recruited by SARA to clone the slain Cosmo Samurai (Tsuruhime, Awaji and Yasuke) in order to continue the battle against Jaaku who traveled back in time after taking over TOM's body.[2]
The Cosmo Samurai then become a vigilante group that traveled through space aboard their ship the Cosmo to battle Jaaku, keep the system safe from space pirates and other extraterrestrial threats, and search for TOM.[1] At some point Hakase transferred his brain into Tsuruhime's pet cat.[2]
Cosmo Samurai
In episode 1, Hakase and the Cosmo Samurai rescued the heavily damaged TOM from deep space after his escape pod exploded.[1] After meeting TOM and realizing they share a common enemy, TOM joins the Cosmo Samurai in their quest to defeat the Akutou. Due to the damage TOM sustained, Hakase builds him a new more battle-ready body.[4] In episode 3, Hakase uses his hacking skills on the Akutou mothership to figure out where the central command center. While Tsuruhime and Awaji attack the Mid Boss they are unable to penetrate his barrier. Hakase figures out that the barrier protects the Mid Boss on all sides and attempts to hack the system to take control of it.[5] In episode 4, Hakase finally gains control over the Akutou mothership's system, using the guns to fend off the remaining robots and shutting down the Mid Boss' barrier. With the Mid Boss defeated the actual Jaaku of the Akutou reveals himself and mocks the Cosmo Samurai, revealing the Mid Boss was merely a pawn in his organization. TOM then makes a declaration that they’re coming for him next.[3]
Cosmo Samurai 2
In episode 1, after the Cosmo Samurai lay slain, Hakase emerges from a stasis pod aboard the Cosmo and transfers the stored memories of the fallen Cosmo Samurai into clone bodies. In episode 2 Hakase reveals that he was formerly a human physicist that created TOM and the cloning process that the Cosmo Samurai use.
Appearance
Hakase is a feline with blue and white fur. He sits in a spherical floating pod that has a lab coat motif, including a red neck tie and pocket protector.[1] He was formerly a human male physicist and it is implied in episode 2 of Cosmo Samurai 2 that he now resides in the body of Tsuruhime's former pet cat.[2]
Abilities
Hakase possesses the third most genius intellect in the universe and acts as the inventor and scientist of the Cosmo Samurai. He created TOM and designed TOM a new battle ready body with upgraded fire power and systems. He also created a cloning process that can transfer the memories of a fallen member of the Cosmo Samurai into a clone body.[4][2]
