Annie Kay

Annie Kay is the wife of Sergeant II David "Deacon" Kay and mother of four children including Victoria Josie, Matthew, Samuel and Lila. She is disapproving of Chris's polyamorous relationship (thinks it's "unnatural"). She went to Law School for Environmental Law but left with on two semesters left (possible due to being pregnant), In the final episode of the first season, Deacon decides to take time off from SWAT to stay with the kids so she can complete Law school, only to tell him she could not return yet as she became pregnant again.

She's not always been the biggest fan of Deacon's job, mostly because the schedule and the danger it put in him. After their house being shot at and the death of Erika Rogers, she has suggested that he look at as a change to that he should retire from SWAT and work at his security business full-time. Saying it might have been his funeral if he didn’t have the day off.

She is portrayed by Bre Blair.

Biography

She first appears in Radical and she and her husband organize a barbecue to enjoy time with their friends shortly after their son Samuel's baptism. Annie reassures Captain Jessica Cortez towards Deacon's mood for Hondo being promoted as leader of 20-Squad instead of Deacon himself.

In 2018, Deacon and his wife, Annie, celebrated their 10-year anniversary. In "Seizure", Annie suffers a stroke and is hospitalized in need of an emergency surgery. In the next episode, "K-Town", Annie collapses once more, resulting in Captain Jessica Cortez contacting Police Commissioner Michael Plank in order to get a specialist to save her life. Deacon tells Jessica about how Annie was going to Law School for Environmental Law but dropped out to support him and the children. In the season finale of season one, "Hoax", Deacon and Annie renew their vows with their friends present. Deacon then takes extra time off to take care of their children, so that Annie can heal fully. Annie then reveals that she is pregnant again. In the middle of the second season, she gives birth to another daughter named Victoria.

Does not approve of the troupe relationship Chris is in, hinting that she wouldn’t have chosen Chris to be Victoria's godmother had she known.

After their home is shot up by men working for Colombian former general and druglord Emiliano Murido, Annie and Deacon search for a therapist to help their children in putting the trauma behind their backs.

In the fourth season, she and Deacon decide to send Lila to another school in order for her to make a full emotional recovery after their house got shot up in the previous season. Though Deacon is initially reluctant and Lila does not seem to possess many talents to earn the approval of the representatives of the school, she is ultimately accepted and Deacon becomes the school's new S.W.A.T. liaison.

In the seventh season, Annie finally becomes a lawyer as she wanted but she was forced to pick up a sick Samuel from his school in the day of her first case. Acknowledging the sacrifices his wife had made to support his career, Deacon makes the hard decision to retire from S.W.A.T. in order to take Annie's place as caretaker of their children whilst earning fortune solely from his secondary job in private security. At the end of the season, Annie reveals to Deacon her sister Nicole had broken up with her boyfriend and moved in with them to recover from the breakup. Since she had a good relationship with the kids, she offered to be their nanny, which would allow Annie and Deacon to continue their careers in law and S.W.A.T. respectively. With this, Deacon reverses his decision and remains in 20-Squad.

In the eighth season, she and Deacon are in opposite sides in regard to Steven Owens, an alleged child kidnapper and murderer. She insists with her husband and his team they do not have enough evidence to prosecute him with the kidnapping of a little girl named Gracie and they would have to let him walk free as per the law. Annie helps Deacon track down Owens through his second phone, which he used to contact Annie via text. At the end of the episode, Owens is revealed to be indeed behind Gracie's kidnapping and he and his partner, who was killed by Deacon's teammate Powell to save Gracie, were responsible for kidnapping and murdering other children, including one in Arizona, a state where such crimes earn the death penalty. Annie and Deacon make amends for criticising one another and leave the headquarters together to see their children.
