"Donor" is the fifteenth episode of the fifth season in the remake version of S.W.A.T., and the ninety-ninth episode overall, which was aired on March 27, 2022.
Summary
When hospital employees are targeted by a gunman, the SWAT team races to find a grieving father whose son was denied a kidney transplant. Also, Hondo searches for evidence to prove his theory of the culprit behind an alarming rise in Los Angeles stash houses.
Recap
Hondo is still on Saint's trail. Saint was an old friend of his father's. The two men used to be in the Black Panthers together and their friendship faltered off after Hondo's dad left the party. But Hondo and Saint recently butted heads in a case. Saint pretended to be helping when really, he was hunting three teenagers, and he was going to kill them if Hondo's team hadn't stopped them. Hondo became aware of Saint's shady dealings after that. He tried to take down Saint. He went after Saint's money by shutting down his stash houses and taking millions away from him and it was no good because Saint's people refuse to turn on him.
They were loyal. Almost as loyal as Hondo's team were for him. Hondo wanted to keep going after Saint and unfortunately work and more often than not Saint got in the way. Saint launched a counteraction to Hondo shutting down his stash houses. It turns out Saint got into contact with Raymont Harris. Harris was the black teenager who got shot by a white cop and that launched Hondo's career into the spotlight. He used to play the second fiddle to the shooter, and, after the incident, that was no more. Hondo became team captain. He runs things now and he knew that Saint was up to no good with Harris.
Hondo was on good terms with Harris. He reached out to the young man. He found out that Harris graduated from UCLA early and that he got a degree in business. Harris now wants to go into business for himself. He wanted to create a mobile farmer's market that would get fresh produce into troubled areas. It was a good idea, and it would be great for the community. But Harris wanted to accept money from Saint as an investment. Which was a bad idea. Saint would wait until the man got in too deep and then take advantage of him. And so Hondo spoke to Harris as a way of warning the young man about Saint.
But the kid didn't want to hear it. He said Saint was willing to invest a hundred grand in his business and that he asked around. All he heard was good things about Saint. Not the bad and so he told Hondo to find a new investor for him or he was going to take Saint up on the offer. Hondo tried to find new investors. He asked everyone and everyone said they didn't want to go up against Saint. Saint was respectable in most circles. He seemed like a kind-hearted man who was just trying to do some good in the neighborhood and so no one wanted to step on his toes. And Hondo knew he couldn't afford to become an investor himself.
Hondo turned to Luca for help. He told Luca about the problem and Luca said he would think about it, but a case came first and the team caught a case. They were called in for a hospital shooting. The shooting happened at the hospital's outdoor cafeteria area and several people were killed. Most of them sat on the board of the organ committee. As in, they got to choose who gets an organ. One of the doctors at the hospital had said she knew who the shooter was. His name was Fred Hill. His son Isaac had died after he failed to meet the qualifications for an organ transplant. And so his father started to take revenge on everyone responsible for Isaac's death.
The team later learned that Fred also targeted everyone on the board. Not just the ones at the hospital and so they slowly started tracking everyone down to find and help them. The team came across Fred numerous times as he tried to kill the people, he felt were responsible. He also got his hands on the doctor who would've performed the surgery. The doctor only refused because the hospital found out the organ was collected by fraudulent means and so the hospital asked Fred to pay out of pocket. And that wasn't something he could afford, but it is something he’s willing to avenge.
Fred grabbed a hold of the doctor. He dragged him to his son's grave, and he would have killed him if the team hadn't stopped him. Which they did. They stopped him and then they went to the SWAT talent show. Officer Cabrera was nervous, but then Luca sang with her and her nerves went away. The talent show was great fun. Deacon was missing because he was helping his wife with the Ortiz case. Hondo was missing because he was still looking for investors and he was getting nowhere. He tried Luca. Luca didn't have it. He tried Hicks. Hicks told him that they couldn't afford to crush Harris's business plan after shooting the guy.
The whole city would wonder what more could do if they heard.
