Wordsmith

Wordsmith

Wordsmith is a poet from the Skyrock Mountains in the Wonder Boy series. Like all Skyrock poets, his compositions are terrible.

History

Wordsmith lived on Skyrock Mountains presumably all his life until dinosaur ghosts ascended from Ghost World and began attacking his home. Before he could get away, Wordsmith was captured by a quetzacoatlus (not a pterodactyl) and taken to its nest in Ghost World, the human falling asleep when passing through the Sleep Clouds. He woke up just in time to avoid being the dinosaur's next meal and climbed down, only to find himself surrounded by more threats. In an unthought of act for a poet, Wordsmith bravely made his way back to the staircase leading to Skyrock, but could not climb due to the clouds. To pass the time, Wordsmith toured around his new world, learning about the different locations and composing awful rhymes.

Some time later, Wordsmith was joined by Shion and Lukout, descending sleepily down into Ghost World via magic handkerchief. Wordsmith talked about his daring escape before reciting a poem. Unfortunately, this seemed to attract the ire of a mammoth and its rider, before it was revealed they were being chased by a dinosaur guard. Having lived amongst the beasts for a while, Wordsmith realised the guard was upto something but was unable to prevent Lukout from being turned to stone. After Shion had sent the dinosaur on an "instant holiday", Wordsmith stole his spear and helmet before joining Shion to Tom's Trading Post and Supply Emporium. There, his only "purchase" was a shield and the heroes journeyed into the jungle, noticing that the smell from Dinotown was increasing. Shion ventured into a tree, but told Wordsmith to hide when he was captured by Morcie and Wisie.

Wordsmith remained hidden for a while, but later decided to rescue Shion from his prison. Unfortunately, the Wonder Boy's shouting woke up guard Gutsucker and, now devoid of a spear (he had given it to Shion to cut himself free), Wordsmith could only run into a dead end. Armed only with a dagger, Wordsmith managed to get a small hit on his foe but was cast down to the ground, about to be impaled. Rescued by Shion, the pair moved to the Dinosaur King's lair, Wordsmith picking up a Stone to Flesh wand and using it to save Lukout. On the way back to the staircase, Wordsmith picked up a Bottled Hurricane and used it clear the Sleep Clouds, obstructing the Dino King at the same time. Finally back home, Wordsmith had time to recite a poem deep enough to tell the tale of his horrific journey.
