Spears are long, thin weapons with a bladed end. They are most commonly used in hunting, particularly in fiction. Spears can be used in two main ways, by either thrusting it into the enemy with two hands (or one hand if the prey is for whatever reason not fast) or by throwing it like a javelin. Although not a popular weapon in Sonic the Comic, they have appeared on a few occasions:
- Spears appear occasionally in the second The Legend of the Golden Axe story Plague of Serpents. Queen Silpantia-Dragontamer attempted to protect a Hammerynth creche from Cobraxis with a magic spear infused with enchanted metal. With it, she managed to impale and kill a snake Cobraxis was using as a weapon, but discarded it in an attempt to fight Cobraxis hand-to-hand. Later in the same story, the evil Viprax wielded a double-bladed spear, but was unable to use it before he was knocked over by Gilius-Thunderhead's attack.
- Ancient echidnas used spears as their favourite weapon of choice, despite being advanced enough to command Guardian Robots. Using such weapons, an echidna tribe managed to bring a Kohenyu tribe to extinction, hunting the males until there were none left.
