Story
It is monday morning in the Business Sector of the Metropolis Zone and a crowd of businessmen and women are preparing for a hard day at work. Suddenly, Carruthers, one of the workers, picks up a brick and hurls it through the window of a jewellery store and helps herself to an armful of loot. She states that she can't help it and everyone else is soon robbing the local stores. In a nearby burger bar, Amy and Tekno the Canary hear cries for help and stop the bank manager robbing his bank. Soon, they are forced to pacify all of the crooks, but Tekno seems to believe their pleas of innocence. Using her scanner, Tekno learns that microchips with artificial intelligence have been fitted in the suits, so the police come to arrest the suits for forcing them to steal. As the workers stand almost naked, the rain starts to fall and the suits short out, giving Amy an idea.
The next day, a bird wheels a massive wheelbarrow full of money into a warehouse. The suits guide their unwitting occupants right to Alf Garment, a mad tailor (rejected by the Mad Scientists' Club) who is using his designs to become the richest villain in the world. However, Amy and Tekno, carrying water pistols, burst from inside the wheelbarrow and start firing at the suits. Garment tries to escape but slips from another burst of water from Amy's gun. After being locked up in prison, Garment promises to forget being a villain.
Trivia
- The story's title is a play on "following suit", a phrase used to describe when someone is copying somebody else, and the word "suit".
- Garment is later seen in the cell next to Sydney Bland in "The Sky's the Limit".
- A large beetle is seen eating a burger behind Amy and Tekno, making it one of the few occasions that a fully-grown insect is seen on Mobius before the arrival of The Family.
- Someone looking like Tim Tuna can be seen in the initial crowd scene.
- The idea of the story is that the suits are dragging their wearers to the crimes and forcing them to commit them. However, this doesn't explain why Carruthers angrily hurls the brick or why the bank manager has an "urge" to rob a bank.
- The bird police force return in The End of the World!.
