Munyips were tiny creatures that lived on the forest moon Endor. Arboreal in nature, they glided between trees using flaps of skin between their limbs and sang as they climbed or glided. The Ewok Wicket Wystri Warrick considered a munyip potential prey during a hunting expedition but ultimately failed to catch one. In 4 ABY, the Ewok shaman Logray sensed a munyip gliding near him using the Force, and the creatures were present during the Battle of Endor that occurred soon after.
Biology and appearance

Munyips were tiny creatures[4] that possessed four limbs ending in paws, each with three toes tipped by black claws.[1] A flap of skin connected the fore and hind limb on each side of their body, which could be pulled taught and used to glide through the air.[2] Covered in pinkish-gray fur bar the pink flesh of their large ears, munyips also had a pair of large brown eyes, a narrow snout, and a tail.[1]
Behavior
Munyips were arboreal forest creatures and sometimes sung while they climbed[3] or glided between the trees[5] of the moon Endor. They would even sing while climbing through the villages of the sentient Ewok species[3] and could be heard at dawn during summer.[6]
History

While out on a snowy night-time hunting expedition on Endor[4] between 1 BBY and 4 ABY,[7] the young Ewok Wicket Wystri Warrick hoped to catch something more impressive than the brub berries that his brother Weechee had brought back to their home in Bright Tree Village earlier that day, believing that even catching a tiny munyip would be an improvement. He ultimately returned empty handed though after the shaman Logray and Chief Chirpa impersonated the mythical Kroolok to frighten Warrick and his friends in to returning home safely.[4]
In 4 ABY,[8] Logray reached out with the Force to sense the life in a forest on Endor and became aware of a nearby munyip gliding between trees and singing a song that silenced the chatter of various birds that it passed.[5] During the Battle of Endor that occurred soon after, munyips glided between trees above the battling Imperial and rebel forces.[2] Shortly after the battle, the Ewoks Asha Fahn and Meedro rode a bordok past a munyip at the base of a tree while they traveled toward Endless Lake to rescue Warrick, who had been kidnapped by Imperials.[1]
Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, munyips were first mentioned in the reference book Ultimate Star Wars,[9] which was released on April 28, 2015.[10] They then appeared for the first time in the Rise Against the Empire Play Set of the non-canon video game Disney Infinity 3.0,[11] on August 30, 2015.[12] In the game's Toy Store, both pink and brown munyips were available for purchase.[11] The creatures' first canonical appearance then occurred on the Endor maps in the video game Star Wars Battlefront, released by DICE[2] on November 17, 2015.[13]
Munyips originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they first appeared in "The Cries of the Trees",[14] the pilot episode of the Ewoks television series which aired on September 7, 1985.[15] They were then first identified in the third episode of the show's first season, "Rampage of the Phlogs,"[16] which aired on September 21, 1985.[15]

- ↑ Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle 4 depicts Logray before he became shaman of the Bright Tree tribe and is dated to 1 BBY by Star Wars: Timelines. "One Normal Day" depicts Wicket Wystri Warrick as no longer being a wokling and takes place and occurs concurrent with the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, which Timelines dates to 4 ABY. As "The Kroolok" depicts Logray as a shaman and Warrick as a wokling, it must take place between these two dates.
