Metals were a type of solid material that was typically durable, able to conduct electricity, and could be made to shine. Often, metals were mined as ore and processed for industrial applications, such as starship and droid construction as well as power generation. Other times, metals were used in decorative purposes such as art or jewelry.[1]
Metals found naturally in the galaxy included iron, gold, silver, nyix, platinum,[1] cortosis,[2] doonium, and dolovite.[3] Other metals were produced industrially as alloys, including quadanium steel, beskar,[4] amd nyix-alloy.[1] The wood of the brylark tree was as strong as metal.[5] Steelpeckers were birds native to the planet Jakku[6] that fed mainly on metal, to which they were drawn by its magnetic signature. To consume metal, the birds stored vanadium, osmiridium, and corundum in their gizzards.[7]
