"Speaking of which, where's the 'wisdom' in pulling us all the way back here when we're supposed to be reinforcing the blockade at Herdessa?"
―Anakin Skywalker, to Obi-Wan Kenobi[5]

Herdessa was an astronomical object located in the Mid Rim along the Corellian Run. The Galactic Republic blockaded it during the Clone Wars, and Senator Shea Sadashassa represented the celestial body in the Republic Senate and later the Imperial Senate. Vryant, a soldier in the Imperial Army, served six years on Herdessa. After the Imperial Senate was dissolved in 0 BBY, Sadashassa and many other senators were detained in the Arrth-Eno Prison Complex on the planet Coruscant.

Description

"Six years on Herdessa, two in the trenches of Phorsa Gedd before I was shipped here."
―Vryant, reflecting on his service with the Empire[3]

Herdessa was a terrestrial[3] astronomical object located in an intersecting portion of the Mid Rim Territories[1] and the Slice regions.[2] Situated in grid square Q-16 of the Standard Galactic Grid, it lay along the Corellian Run[1] super-hyperroute[6] between the astronomical objects Mon Gazza and Radnor.[1]

History

"Most senators didn't escape underground like us. They were blindsided by the news of the Senate's dissolution and opened their doors to find ISB loyalty officers waiting to put them in shackles."
Princess Leia Organa, on the arrest of senators like Shea Sadashassa in an official document sent to Rebel Alliance Commander-in-Chief Mon Mothma[4]

Between 20 BBY and 19 BBY,[7] during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance, the Republic had a blockade in place at Herdessa. Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were tasked with reinforcing the blockade but were soon pulled back from the front lines by Admiral Wullf Yularen for a more urgent mission.[5] In the last month of the Clone Wars,[4] which ended in 19 BBY,[8] around two thousand legislators, known as the Delegation of 2,000, signed the Petition of 2,000, a formal protest for the Republic Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine to relinquish his emergency powers and begin seeking peace with the Separatists. Senator Shea Sadashassa, who represented Herdessa in the Galactic Senate, was among those who signed the petition, which was presented during a full Senate session.[4]

TRF Senatorial arrests fixed

However, when the Clone Wars ended with the fall of the Separatists, Palpatine reorganized the Republic into the Galactic Empire while simultaneously destroying the Jedi Order, declaring them enemies of the Republic.[8] A day after the Empire's founding, Sadashassa and sixty-two other senators that had signed the Petition of 2,000 were arrested under accusations of having colluded with an alleged Jedi insurgency. Any senator that professed their loyalty to the Empire was released thereafter, and Sadashassa continued as Herdessa's senator in the Imperial Senate.[4]

During the Empire's reign, the Imperial Army soldier Vryant served six years on Herdessa before going on to be posted on[3] the Mid Rim planet[9] Phorsa Gedd.[3] In 0 BBY,[10] Palpatine dissolved the Imperial Senate,[8] and a mass arrest was ordered for all senators and former senators.[11] While some senators were able to escape underground, Sadashassa and the rest of them were arrested by Imperial Security Bureau loyalty officers and detained as political prisoners at the Arrth-Eno Prison Complex on the[4] capital world of Coruscant.[12] An attempt was made to free the prisoners before they could be executed[4] around 0 ABY,[8] but the prison was destroyed during the mission, killing all the senators.[4]

Behind the scenes

Herdessa was first mentioned in the 2016 Fantasy Flight Games' roleplaying boxed set Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Herdessa first appeared in the eighty-eighth issue of Marvel Comics' 1977 Star Wars comic-book series. The issue was written by Mary Jo Duffy, penciled by Bob McLeod,[13] and published on June 26, 1984.[14]
