Giju Glug

For other uses, see Giju.

"Each of these establishments offers its own unique list of libations, but one common entry seems to be this fizzy, fruity drink that the locals call Giju Glug. I found a few different variations, but my favorite version included some Blutopia Pearls at the bottom for a bit of extra flavor and flare."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Giju Glug was the name given by the inhabitants of the Colonies[1] planet[2] Giju to a fizzy, fruity drink that was commonly served at cantinas and tapcafes across the world, of which there were many, each with its own unique list of available beverages. Several variants of the drink were available, with one including a layer of Blutopia pearls for extra flare and flavor. The layers of pearls sat between the bottom layer of orange chunks and a layer of clear liquid beneath the top layer of crushed ice and a green leaf garnish.[1]

During a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[3] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs tried several versions of Giju Glug while on Giju and included the recipe for his favorite—the variant with Blutopia pearls—in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[3]

Behind the scenes

Giju Glug was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the drink makes use of diced peaches, mint, ginger ale, and Blutopia pearls, another recipe included in the book.[1]

  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
