- "One of my favorite dishes of theirs happens to be this pasta, coated with a swamp scum sauce reminiscent of a pesto. Some fresh fungi foraged from their forests adds a bit of meatiness (without addin' any actual meat)."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook
Shag Pabol Pasta was a type of yellow, spiraled pasta that was coated in a swamp scum sauce similar to a pesto and served with fresh brown mushrooms that provided meatiness to the vegetarian dish. The dish was made by the Toydarian species using fungus from the forests of their Hutt Space homeworld, Toydaria, and was named for the Shag Pabol hyperspace route that passed through the world.[1]
After taking a culinary tour of the galaxy, including a poriton in Hutt Space booked by the Hutts,[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[2] the Artiodac Strono Tuggs included a recipe for the pasta in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[2] Tuggs considered the dish one of his favorite Toydarian foods, and stated in the book that allow it had been a crowd pleaser along the length of the Shag Pabol for years, it was time that the dish was shared with the whole galaxy.[1]
Behind the scenes
Shag Pabol Pasta was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak.[1]
The out-of-universe recipe for the pesto in the dish makes use of fresh basil, pine nuts, garlic cloves, kosher salt, black pepper, and extra virgin olive oil. The mushrooms in the dish use olive oil, minced garlic cloves, sliced white mushrooms, basil, oregano, amd additional kosher salt. Finally, the pasta is rotini with grated parmesan cheese and pasta water.[1]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
