Giju was a planet located in the Colonies. Due to its placement on the Rimma Trade Route and the Herglic Alley hyperspace routes, it received many visitors and had tapcafes and cantinas to serve them. In 0 ABY, a group of underground Alliance to Restore the Republic leaders were evacuated from Giju by three members of the Alliance's Red Squadron, who fought the Galactic Empire's forces over the world. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs also visited Giju and tried several variants of the Giju Glug beverage there while on a culinary tour of the galaxy at some point between 34 ABY and 35 ABY.

Description

Giju was a planet^[6] that appeared blue in color from orbit.^[7] It was located in the Colonies^[1] and the Interior^[2] in grid square L-13 of the Standard Galactic Grid.^[1] The Giju Run hyperspace route had one of its termini at Giju and connected the world to^[3] the planet Bardotta in the Shasos sector's Bardotta system,^[8] while the Herglic Alley route ran from Giju to^[1] the planet^[5] Byblos,^[4] which also sat on the Corellian Run. Giju also fell on the Rimma Trade Route,^[1] a super-hyperroute^[9] that connected it to the astronomical object Dentaal and^[1] the planet^[10] Ghorman.^[1]

History

Getting off of Giju

By 10 BBY,^[11] the pirate queen Maz Kanata had marked Giju as a location of interest on a map in the book known as the Smuggler's Guide.^[4] In 0 ABY,^[12] a group of underground Alliance to Restore the Republic leaders were evacuated from Giju on board a transport ahead of agents of the Galactic Empire. The transport was escorted by a trio of rebel X-wing starfighters from Red Squadron but encountered a patrol of TIE fighters amidst the space lanes above the planet, leading to a firefight between the two groups of starfighters. Many of the other starships on the lanes above Giju, including two freight tenders and a line of bulk freighters, then moved away from the fight as quickly as possible while more Imperial forces arrived.^[6]

Although the sheer amount of traffic above Giju meant there were numerous places for enemy vessels to hide in, the rebels instead managed to destroy several TIEs before the transport safely made a jump to hyperspace. The three X-wings then followed scatter protocol and each of them individually jumped to hyperspace, with the rebel pilot Luke Skywalker following a randomly chosen zigzag pattern of jumps to reach the planet Devaron, which was not far from Giju.^[6]

Maps, tales, and recipes

Shortly before the Alliance established a base on the planet Hoth, that world was missing from a star chart titled Giju plot 773/B.^[13] At some point between 33 ABY and 34 ABY,^[14] the protocol droid C-3PO told a story that relayed Red Squadron's mission to Giju to the Resistance pilot Jessika Pava.^[6]

During a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took^[5] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,^[15] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs stopped at Giju and visited several tapcafes and cantinas, discovering several variations of a commonly available drink that the locals called Giju Glug. He mentioned Giju when including a recipe for his favorite variation, which included Blutopia pearls, in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published^[5] in 35 ABY.^[15]

Due to the Herglic Alley's connection between the Rimma Trade Route and the Corellian Run, numerous travelers ended up at Giju during journeys across the galaxy. To cater to these visitors, the world had a wide array of cantinas and tapcafes that each offered unique assortments of beverages.^[5]
