Fondor Ice

"I even found a little 'great'—includin' this velvety ice cream with a vibrant violet hue that matches the planet's purple surface. One decadent dessert doesn't completely forgive Fondor for its role in the Empire's galactic reign of terror, but it's certainly a fine start (and a fine finish for any meal)."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Fondor Ice was a type of velvety, vegetarian ice cream with a vibrant, violet hue that matched the surface color of the Colonies planet Fondor, where the dessert originated. During a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[2] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs visited Fondor and tried to focus on good on the world rather than the role it had played in starship manufacturer and repair for the Galactic Empire, which he considered evil.[1]

During the visit, Tuggs discovered the ice cream, which he considered decadent and great, and he later included a recipe for it in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[2] In the book, he stated that Fondor Ice was a fine end to any meal, even calling it a good start on the road to forgiveness for Fondor.[1]

Behind the scenes

Fondor Ice was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the salad makes use of coconut cream, coconut milk, granulated sugar, ube extract, vanilla extract, and diced mango.[1]

  2. 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
