The Stargate dialer is a small Goa'uld device capable of using a Stargate to establish a wormhole without the need for an Ancient Dial Home Device.
History
Ba'al was shown to possess one such device that attached to the Stargate itself. Once attached the user simply input the desired address, like a miniature DHD. It is unknown if Ba'al's device can be used to dial another galaxy, but the device at least contains enough power to dial an intragalactic address with a gate that has no other power source. It was used by Ba'al to dial an unknown address in 1939 after changing time on Earth, and then by the alternate Teal'c to dial Praxyon in 2009. (SG1: "Continuum")
Alternate timeline
- In an alternate timeline where SG-1 never returned to expose the rogue NID's actions, the Goa'uld System Lord Hecate lent SG-1 a similar device in 2098 to use the Beta Gate. However, this one needed a naquadah reactor to act as a power source. It was also able to display the last eleven addresses dialed into the Beta Gate and telemetry for each wormhole. Major Samantha Carter and Colonel Jack O'Neill later used the device to dial P5X-104 so that they could use the Time Jumper to change history. When hooking up the device, Carter notes that it doesn't appear to be of Goa'uld origin but rather Tollan or another similar race. (Stargate SG-1: Apocalypse - Exile - Insurrection)
