Klopnod

Location

Klopnod, also known as Klöpnod, is an old traditional town in the Pacific Ocean that first appears in the episode "Klopnodian Heritage Festival." It is an artificial mixture of different European cultures. According to Squidina's pamphlet, Klopnod is the silliest place in the ocean.

Architecture

Thanks But No Thanksgiving 244

Klopnodian houses are tall and rectangular-shaped with one door and some windows. The buildings are medieval-like multi-story towers built with metal frames. Some floors of the houses have slipped to one side. The buildings' roofs are tiled, usually with a chimney.

However, in the episode "Klopnodian Heritage Festival," yurt-like tents are seen, made from carpets or other fabric materials, and supported by ropes.

Traditions

Klopnodian Heritage Festival 045

Klopnod has many traditions, which are very odd. Klopnodian men are afraid of everything, so they sweat it out in the Flop Sweat Lodge, releasing big amounts of perspiration. Only women are allowed to swat sea flies using fly swatter. Each shelf in Klopnod is 30 feet high for unknown reasons, and the items on it can only be taken off by men. The national flag of Klopnod looks like a tablecloth because it is white and red checkered and has mustard stains on it. The Klopnodian flag is raised on the flagpole by folding it, and it is considered highly disrespectful if it unfolds. There is an event held in Bikini Bottom called Klopnodian Heritage Festival to preserve the traditions of the culture.

The Klopnodian cuisine contains many weird dishes. Known traditonal foods include fried mud pie, hundred-year-old bread, phony bologna, rock soup, Stew on a Stick and cabbage cakes. Also, Klopnodians named a cream puff after GrandPat because he lost a battle against them in the past.

History

Klopnodian Heritage Festival 016

In the episode "Klopnodian Heritage Festival," it was revealed that in the 12th century, GrandPat attacked Klopnod with his army to conquer it, but they were defeated. Due to his failure, the Klopnodians named a cream puff after him to humiliate him better, leading GrandPat to seek revenge.

There was also a "Klopnodian War" in the past which is referenced in several episodes. In the Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years episode "First and Last Aid," Nurse Helga reveals that she participated in this war as a field nurse. Bunny creates a diorama made out of chocolate depicting the Klopnodian War in the episode "At Home, on the Lam." In "Swaptoberfest," Pearl asks GrandPat and Bunny for help with a school assignment about the Klopnodian War, but they do not provide proper information. In "Thanks But No Thanksgiving," GrandPat tries to bring weapons on the family trip to Klopnod to continue the war.
