Exterior

Interior
The walls in the lobby are made of light green metal panels, and the floor has brownish colored tiles. The library has multiple floors accessible via an elevator. The library area itself has brown walls, green tiled floor, and beige paneled ceiling, furnished with white bookcases. There is a library jail section with brown walls and a gray floor, along with a reading seat, bookshelves, and posters on the walls.
Role in episode
Squidward heads to the library to return his affirmation book before it's overdue. At the library, he avoids SpongeBob and Patrick, who are there for "elevator riding day," but they catch up to him in an elevator. They end up stuck in the elevator after Patrick presses all the buttons and Squidward short circuits it by pounding the top floor button. They try to escape, but it's in vain as Patrick's antics make things worse. Squidward calls for help, but only reaches Wally, who is also stuck and unhelpful.
To stay calm, Squidward uses his book to lead meditation, turning the elevator into a zen island. When Wally digs through to help, he is unsettled by their new peaceful setup and flees. Soon after, the police arrive, pry open the elevator, and arrest Squidward because his book is 30 seconds overdue. In library jail, Squidward is briefly relieved to have peace, but SpongeBob and Patrick get themselves arrested too, driving him to madness.
