The Grim (グリム[1] Gurimu?) is a location that appears in the Sonic Prime television series. It was a Shatterspace created by the destruction of the Paradox Prism.
Description
The Grim, unlike the other Shatterspaces, is a dimension devoid of any life, civilization, or alternate versions of Sonic's fragmented friends. It is a desert-like world with grey, hexagonal rock structures scattered around. The sky was at first like the northern lights, but after Nine collected all of the Prism Shards and rebuilt the Paradox Prism, the sky changed to light blue.
History
TV series
Season One
After Sonic was teleported to the Boscage Maze due to the red Prism Shard, Nine took it for himself, abandoning the Resistance and betraying them. Nine then built a flying vehicle capable of interdimensional travel across the Shatterverse using the Shard's power. He then found the Grim, returned to New Yoke City and took Sonic there, insisting that the two could live in that world alone, though Sonic rejected his offer. Nine then took Sonic back to New Yoke City.
Season Two
The episode "Cracking Down" shows a flashback of how Nine discovered the Grim. He was hiding in New Yoke City's counterpart place of Tails' lab where he built the vehicle. When Eggforcers located him, he was forced to flee and flew to the Shatterverse for the first time. One of the vehicle's rockets were hit by the rocks and was forced to land, and that's when he discovered the Grim. While exploring the Grim, he found the purple Prism Shard, placed it alongside the red Shard in another Shatter Drive and used the purple Shard's power to transform rocks into coconuts and palm trees. He also built a lab for himself to stay.
When Nine had finished putting the red, green and blue Shards together with the yellow one in Ghost Hill, he and Sonic realized one Shard was still missing, the purple one. But both Sonic and Nine were in shock finding out they had different plans: Sonic wanted to use the Paradox Prism to bring Green Hill and his friends back, but Nine wanted to use it to transform The Grim into his home. With this, Nine betrayed Sonic and Shadow, stole the four Shards of the Paradox Prism and used their power to open a portal to The Grim, returning to his lab there.
Season Three
After returning to The Grim, Nine placed the four Shards he stole from Ghost Hill, Sonic and Shadow near the purple Shard, which rebuilt the Paradox Prism, and used its power to stabilize his world and build himself a fortress from which he emitted a forcefield. Upon the nearly-complete restoration of the Paradox Prism, the sky colour changed. He also made Alpha Grim Sonic, Alpha Grim Knuckles, Alpha Grim Amy, Alpha Grim Rouge and Alpha Grim Birdie out of crystals that are commonly found around The Grim. He can create hundreds upon hundreds of clones of these robots using the energy from the Paradox Prism. But because he used too much energy from the unstable Paradox Prism, he shrank the forcefield, causing The Grim to decay more until the Citadel is the only thing left of it. Even after Sonic gave up his Prism Energy to fully restore and stabilize the Paradox Prism, Nine was unable to undo the damage he caused to The Grim when he restored the other Shatterspaces (New Yoke City, the Boscage Maze, No Place and Ghost Hill, which transformed into Green Hill).
