Sonic Golf (ソニックゴルフ[2], Sonikku Gorufu?) is a mobile phone game released on the Sonic Cafe service offered by Sega. In 2006, Sega released a 3D sequel of the game called Sonic Golf 3D.
The original game was used to create Sonic Golf C-Mode Cup, which plays the same way and was part of an event where one could win free beverages from vending machines.
Gameplay
In Sonic Golf, the player plays half a round (nine holes) of golf as Sonic the Hedgehog. New rounds could be downloaded from Sonic Cafe servers on the main menu by pressing [0].
The player can choose which golf club to use and rotate the angle Sonic will swing at before taking the shot. Gameplay features a power gauge at the bottom of the screen; the red bar of the gauge fills and depletes to signify the power behind the swing. There is also a ball with a dot on it in the bottom right; the dot signifies where on the ball the player will make contact, the closer to the center the more accurate the shot will be.[2]
Wind speed and direction is displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen. The player's stroke count is shown in top right.
Once the player's ball reaches the green, they may only use the putter. The green is on a slope, with the darker color being lower.[2] The player's score is displayed after each hole, with the total score of the nine holes being displayed at the end. This final score is then able to be shared on the Sonic Cafe leaderboards.
