Rock World Zone, also known as simply Rock Zone, is a scrapped Zone that was set to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
During the beta development of Sonic 2, when the game's story was set to be centered around time travel, (which was later re-worked for Sonic the Hedgehog CD) this level was supposed to be the past version of another scrapped level, Sand Shower Zone. Aside from this, there is very little information about the Zone.
Through hacking, it is possible to access Zone 09, an empty Zone slot correlating to Rock World Zone's placement on an early concept map. Doing so will bring you to a corrupted version of Emerald Hill Zone Act 1, with the music from Sky Chase Zone. This could potentially suggest that the music was originally composed for Rock World Zone though, like much about this Zone, this is unconfirmed.
