Randall

I'd be most grateful. Anytime you need a sonnet, I'm your man.

Randall is a drifter who visits Stain'd-by-the-Sea and appears in File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents in the sixth incident, "Silver Spoon."

Biography

Early Life

Randall received a gift from his grandfather upon his birth- a silver spoon engraved with the letter R. He describes himself as a poet.

While the exact circumstances are unknown, Randall eventually lost everything from his old life, save the spoon, which he managed to hold onto. He joined a group of drifters, and adopted a one-eared dog, Ashberry. The group eventually ended up in Stain'd-by-the-Sea, where Randall took up window-washing. Dashiell Qwerty, the town librarian, read books to the drifters.[1]

File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents

Silver Spoon/Twenty-Five Guests

Randall is cleaning the windows at Dicey's Department Store for a few coins and some canned goods, while Ashberry stays behind to guard the camp. He takes a quick break to eat canned peaches. Smogface Wiley, a rich businessman, stops by him and offers him several things for his spoon, including a carton of cigarillos, a pinkie ring, a ride in his limousine and a hot bath. While the latter two offers tempt him, Randall still has windows to wash, so he refuses. While Smogface claims to want the spoon for his collection, Randall believes he just wanted to see him eat canned peaches with his hands.

A few days following, the drifters harvest mushrooms by Blotted Boulevard. Upon returning to camp, Ashberry is barking like crazy, the spoon iis gone, and there is an extinguished cigarillo by the fire. Randall goes up to the Wiley Mansion to ask for his spoon back, convinced Smogface stole it, but the man refuses to see him and has him tossed out on his ear. Randall mentions his misfortune to Qwerty, who says that he knows someone who can get his spoon back, as he retrieved a stolen item from the Sallis Mansion. The next day, Qwerty brings Lemony Snicket, and Randall recounts his story, and offers him a sonnet in exchange for his help.

Lemony Snicket manages to retrieve Randall's spoon from Wiley, before being thrown out on his ear.

Physical Appearance

Randall is described as being a short, meek figure, who looks slightly younger than the other drifters and wears crooked glasses.
