Herobrine was a special edition player on SMPEarth. He formerly was part of official Minecraft creepypasta lore, but on Day 69 he decided to settle down and scare fellow SMPEarth players.
Goals
Herobrine's goal was to threaten SMPEarth players' lives especially Grunk's.
History
Day 69
Herobrine joined the server on the haha funny day randomly. He did not appear on the Dynmap, but he did appear on the server list. Later on, the Dynmap was updated with a new world map named 'world_herobrine_graveyard'.
All players who were active at the time would be attacked by Herobrine. While he was not physically there to attack them, they all received nausea and blindness effects. Herobrine would send them threats in the in-game chat saying things such as "I am your death" and "Grave awaits you".
If a player slept during one of his attacks, they would be transported to a place called Herobrine's Grave on the Dynmap. Once you were in Herobrine's Grave, a 'demon' would spawn and it will give you gaps. TimeDeo turned the grave into a farm which gave him a stack of golden apples.
Day 70
Herobrine was "banned" from the server when Chip removed the Herobrine plugin. No one knows if Herobrine will ever come back to get his revenge.
Folklore
It is believed that one of the admins disguised themselves as Herobrine to scare the players. Despite these claims, neither admin has claimed responsibility for Herobrine's actions. Chip even stated that they were affected by the attack all the other players received and he'll delete the plugin soon. However, the consensus amongst the community does not agree with this claim.
It is also possible that the Herobrine is the Russian user of the same name, who acquired the username in 2014. An interview with him can be found here.
