Guntz is an optional playable Armadillo Steam Knight character in the games Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention and Shining Force: Resurrection of Dark Dragon.
Background
Max meets Guntz in Rindo. He is in the home of Dr. Crock, who wants to show off his newest invention - the Steam Suit! Guntz will only join you after the Pao Prairie battle if you talk to him in Rindo. Guntz is a grey armadillo with brown eyes in a suit of armor powered by steam (it will stop working if it does not get water regularly). The suit is also grey with a brown steam apparatus on the back. After promotion it is much more advanced and is white coloured.
Personality
Guntz is a easy-going character, not out for revenge, just wants to see what the steam suit can do. Although initially unsure of the suit, once it's fully operational, he is very proud to be an assistant to Dr. Crock.
Strategy
Guntz is the most defensive and strongest of the Lance users, and almost a perfect opposite to Kokichi. In rough terrain will become much faster to move around, making him take off suddenly mid-game since the Centaur knights lose their movement advantage in this type of terrain. Once promoted, he really shows his potential and for that reason is a popular choice for late-game teams.
He lacks the speed of the centaurs and the flying abilities of Kokichi. Due to his lack of speed and movement results in him being one of the last members of the Force to move at times, resulting in him potentially missing out on battles.

- Guntz has the unique distinction of being the both the only Steam Knight/Steam Baron in the series as well as being the only animal fighter based on an armadillo.
