The QSMP Purgatory is a Main Event which started on November 4th, 2023 (Day 227) and ended on November 18, 2023 (Day 240).

Before the Event

Day 219 - October 27th

An emergency alert from the Federation was issued to Island Residents regarding the temporary closure of The Train Station until further notice. Caution tapes were placed around the perimeter to keep islanders out. The entrance was closed off with a sign informing of the station's reopening on November 4th. Upon investigation, some of the residents found workers cleaning up blocks of dark matter that had allegedly contaminated the area and were able to interact with them.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the QSMP Train Station has been closed until further notice. We will be sending information as it comes in on this very urgent matter.

Day 221 - October 29th

A mysterious video was sent to the island's residents, starting with Chayanne's duck ring floatie laying in the middle of a snowy forest and transitioning to text on gray background. It was supposedly a message from Chayanne to his father Philza, asking him to protect Tallulah no matter what.[3]

Day 222 - October 30th

Another video containing a message from one of the eggs was sent to the island's residents. This time, it was Richarlyson's Brazilian shirt laying at the edge of a grass hill, before transitioning to the same gray background. Richarlyson's message, addressed to his parents in Portuguese, warned them that "It isn't fireflies in the sky" and that they needed to run without stopping.[4]

Day 223 - October 31st

On October 31, 2023, another announcement poster for November 4th was uploaded by QuackityStudios. It depicted the seven missing eggs' accessories abandoned on the desert sand, surrounded by half buried diamond sword and broken marble pillars.[5] This poster shares strong similarities with the one posted after the Time's Up event on QSMPGlobal's Twitter.[6]

The accessories, from left to right: Ramón's mustache, Tallulah's cap, Dapper's hat, Chayanne's floaty, Richarlyson's t-shirt, Pomme's beret, and Leonarda's cap.

Day 224 - November 1st

ElQuackity returned to the island and kidnaped Quackity to once again take his place and participate in the main event. This time around, however, the latter would not be rescued as to not further disrupt ElQuackity's plans. The floor opened up underneath his feet and Quackity disappeared into the abyss. ElQuackity took his leave, not to be seen again until the day of Purgatory.

Day 226 - November 3rd

Dapper's Message on Twitter

The last video containing a message from one of the eggs was sent to the island's residents. It showed a close-up on Dapper's hat, as well as a message to BBH stating that "Nothing is off the table, run over whoever" and that he needed to win.[7]

Start of the Event - November 4th

QSMP_Purgatory_-_Island_Maintenance

Strange events started occurring once the islanders gathered at spawn to chat: dark clouds rolling in, heavy rainfall, and the sudden interruption of the voice chat. These occurrences were punctuated by an unexpected cutscene, in which Cucurucho was presenting the weather forecast and playing various clips of the island's residents perishing in explosions ("What an amazing time to be alive, am I right?"). According to them, rain and thunder were to be expected in the upcoming days.

In order to keep providing the best experience to their guests, Cucurucho informed the residents that they would be relocated to "█ █ █ █ █ █ █" for the time being. The broadcast then began glitching. Cucurucho explained that the new island was a "piece of heaven" with plenty of fun and sunny days. They concluded with a warning: shall anyone decide to stay on Quesadilla Island, they would have a difficult time explaining to their children that they did not care enough for them. Several images of the eggs before their disappearance in the Egg Crisis popped up, and Cucurucho ended the broadcast.

Sometime later, a second cutscene played for the Islanders, this time featuring Mr Duck. He announced that Quesadilla Island would be undergoing maintenance for 2 weeks and that the residents would be relocated to several new islands, where they would be free to explore and go sight-seeing. He guaranteed a marvelous experience for his guests, concluding his message with "We hope you enjoy the Islands".

Upon hearing the sound of a train, the islanders grabbed their tickets and headed to the train station. A third cutscene briefly described their journey traveling through a Nether portal. When they stepped off the train, the sky was red and they were standing in a foreign, much larger station. The building resembled a museum or a stadium, in which their voices were echoing uncontrollably.

Shortly after, a loading screen announced the broadcasting of a fourth cutscene. A mysterious figure walked inside a Federation's computer room and sat at the desk, pouring a cup of coffee before powering up one of the screens. It displayed the status of each egg, dead and alive. Each of their electrocardiograms detected an anomaly and sent a warning signal. The screen then switched to the profile of 6 of the islanders: ElQuackity, Cellbit, Jaiden, Maximus, Etoiles, and Slimecicle, showing their children and how they arrived on the island.

Rules

Islanders are separated into three teams of twelve players: Red, Green, and Blue. Each team is dropped off on a different island with various habitats surrounding a massive central island. Participants are given a list of individual and collective tasks that bring points to their respective teams. Player kills award points and player deaths take some away. Those points are represented by a color-coded percentage bar that gets updated in real time, and the weight of each contribution varies depending on the day.

The server opens every day at 10am PST and closes at 12am PST. Though it is open for 14 hours total, players can only stay on for a maximum of 5 hours to ensure fairness. Once their timer reaches zero, they are forcefully kicked out of the server.

At the end of each day, a winning team is decided based on the highest team score. The 'ultimate winner' is the team who has won the most days across the two-week period. The winning team gets to choose some of the eggs to come bring back home with them. However, there is a twist: one team is cursed. If the cursed team loses, none of the players can escape and the eggs will not be saved. There were however no further updates on that aspect of the game.

The daily winning team is decided by the following:

  • Activity: The amount of time the team has spent on the island. The more time the team spends on the server, the more points they get.
  • Contracts: Located in the spawn area (central island), islanders have to turn in specified resources to the contract NPC. The team who gathers the most of one resource will gain ownership of the contract when the day ends.
  • Missions: Missions are personal tasks which vary between players that can be claimed at the player's team spawn.
  • Kills: A player who kills a member of an enemy team they will gain points. This does not apply to players killing members of their own team and spawnkilling [8].
  • Deaths: Every time a player dies, a certain percentage is taken from their team. The more times players die, the more points get taken away. "The bar to impress me isn't high."
  • Events: "You'll see this on its relevant day."

Each of these factors counts for a different percentage each day.

At the start of the event, all players' health and stamina bars are reset to default and only have a paraglider at their disposal. They are later granted an M.D.A. (Mobile Disaster Analyzer), a smart assistant device. The M.D.A gives them tips, information on disasters, allows them to receive messages, and displays the missions assigned by NPCs.

Quests

  • The islands have both contracts and personal tasks. As of day 5 of Purgatory, the contracts can be claimed[9] by a team if they retrieve a specific item and deliver it to spawn in a higher quantity than the other teams by the end of the day. Contracts cannot be claimed off-stream and players cannot disconnect at the spawn area. By claiming contracts, the team gains points and Bings, a form of currency that can be used to buy items which aid players survive natural disasters.
  • Personal tasks can be claimed at the team's spawn area and are unique to each player. Personal tasks typically consist of retriving of a certain item, killing a specific player, or capturing a particular animal. Personal tasks also award points and Bings.

Teams

Week 1 Teams

The teams for the first week were chosen by The Watcher. Each team was able to pick out which of the members on the list would be their leader. Red team picked Philza, Blue team picked Tubbo and green team picked Etoiles.

Week 2 Teams

At the start of the second week, after green team lost they were disbanded. The members of the remaining teams were then called by The Watcher to pick which members they'd like to take in to their teams. Each of the remaining teams was able to pick a member at a time, and the first pick was decided with a die game.

These people were absent during the entire event: Felps, Germán, Mike, Rubius, Vegetta, Wilbur Soot and Willyrex.

Egg Wars

The Egg Wars were an event that took place from November 6th to November 10th. In this event, each team was tasked with the protection of an insentient egg provided by The Watcher. The Egg Wars played out in two phases.

Phase 1

During phase one, a secure location was assigned to the teams where they could build a reinforced structure. They were granted 2 to 3 days to build it, after which they would have to hide their respective eggs (up to 3 blocks away from the structure).

Phase 2

During phase two, the barriers protecting each area were lifted and players were free to break into enemy structures. Their goal was to find the eggs and earn points by dealing them attack damage. If all players of one team were to disconnect at the same time, they would be disqualified and placed last in the team rankings. The team who dealt the most damage to enemy eggs was crowned victor of the event.

Results

Having failed to build a defensive base in time, Blue Team's egg was promptly attacked by Green Team who benefited from a great advantage. However, they decided not to kill the egg, as they did not want to risk causing the death of an actual Egg. Blue Team gave up on the event entirely, and the admins removed their egg from the game so that the situation seemed less bleak.

The members of Blue Team were then split between the Red and Green forces to balance out the power scale. As the game progressed, Red Team was able to reach Green's floating island and kill their egg. Due to the large number of decoy egg areas in Red's base, Green Team was unable to find the location of their egg in time and failed to make up for Red Team's lead in points.

Red Team was the winner of the Egg Wars.

Warzone Flag

The Warzone Flag event took place from November 15th to November 17th, and was divided into 3 stages. The Watcher described the event as a strategic game, similar to the board game Risk.

Phase 1

In the first phase of Warzone Flag, players had to search the islands' shores for shipwrecks. Ships spawned at random locations after being announced to all players. Each shipwreck was equipped with 3 containers of loots, aggressive mobs, and flags. Delivering those flags to the event NPC at spawn awarded team points.

Prior the event, players designated an area of choice where they would build a new base and move all of their materials. They would be unable to collect resources outside of this area for the rest of the event.

Phase 2

In order to win a round, players were to claim zones using flags. For instance, if Team Soulfire used 3 flags to claim a zone, Team Bolas had to use a minimum of 4 flags in order to overtake it; and so on. Players could steal flags from an enemy base and from their inventories by hitting them; and had to carry the flags back to their base before claiming them as their own. They could use the claimed flags to keep taking over zones. Additional flags were rewarded through one-on-one fights at the cornucopia. The team with the most round-wins was decided victor of the event. The prize of the event was said to be "the egg".

Results

Upon delivering an inspiring speech, Tubbo led Blue Team to victory in the first round. Their meticulously crafted strategy and deeper understanding of the event's mechanics were then rewarded with a second win. They placed traps around their base to make the task more difficult for their opponents. Meanwhile, Team Red showed remarkable organization skills by assigning each team member the task they were most efficient at performing. Foolish built a base in record time and Baghera displayed unexpected 2v1 skills to defend her flags.

During the second round, Bolitas joined Red's forces and Philza soared into the skies with newfound wings. Pac walked out of a brutal encounter with Cellbit slightly distraught and Slimecicle disguised himself as Wilbur Soot to distract their opponents, causing Quackity to go on a killing spree.

Blue Team devised a plan to gather and place all their flags at the same time, significantly enhancing their chances of winning the third round. They secured the victory in the final round with their team strategy and went on to become victors of the Warzone Flag. The celebration included a 'meteor shower'.

Last day of the Event - November 18th

ElQuackity El Regreso Poster
The Watcher Appearance

El Regreso

The last day of Purgatory began with ElQuackity heading to an unknown facility, which shared strong similarities with one of the Federation buildings. Its layout was an underground area at the center of the island, where ElQuackity was apparently keeping the known eggs captive.

ElQuackity addressed the eggs to blame their parents for their hypocrisy and savagery the 2 weeks of Purgatory, claiming that those events had outed them as bad people. He then proceeds to ask the eggs to type their last words. After that, ElQuackity heads to the location of the tiebreaker between the teams.

Philza vs. Tubbo: The Final Battle

A Watcher cutscene popped up. In order to determine who were to win between of the two finalists, Bolas and Soulfire, their respective leaders Philza and Tubbo were to duel in a best-of-3 battle. The Watcher gave both time to prepare and clarified that cheating was not prohibited. All online players gathered at the coliseum for the final battle. Despite the lack of rules, Philza and Tubbo agreed to fight on certain terms for the sake of an honorable battle.

Philza won twice in a row against Tubbo, crowning Team Bolas (Red) victors of the Purgatory.

Hide and Seek

After the decisive fight, The Observer made another appearance where they stated that the games were not fully over yet. Indeed, the participants would have to humor them in a game of hide and seek before being able to get off the island. The Observer's only hint was that they were hiding somewhere close to the players, which was largely misinterpreted as them actually being ElQuackity, before everyone turned their attention to the central dome.

Their search revealed an elevator that took them to the facility where ElQuackity kept the eggs. Inside The Watcher's room, the islanders found the same roulette wheel that Tubbo, Bagi and Carre had previously spun. The Watcher instructed Philza to spin the roulette in order to claim his prize in the form of an egg. Despite his initial reservations, Philza complied and the roulette landed on the number 7. Several things happened after that:

The islanders noticed the presence of who they thought was a Federation worker behind them, until they realized that this entity only had one large eye in the middle of their face.

Hidden alcoves opened up in the wall and revealed the presence of the eggs, alone and visibly distraught.

Then Maximus threatened The Watcher to let everyone return to Quesadilla Island safe and sound, otherwise he would trigger the explosion of the the atomic bomb he had alledgedly installed on the Purgatory's main island.

The Observer appeared in a cutscene to congratulate the participants on their survival. Unfortunately, they were destined to stay there for eternity. The Observer entered the room in person, accompanied by ElQuackity who was finally outed as a traitor. He was promised a reward for his good work, but The Watcher acknowledged that he would probably be better off with his friends, and so they announced the final challenge of the Purgatory.

The End?

All players had exactly 10 minutes to escape the building and make it to the boat waiting on the shoreline of the island. Once the countdown reached zero, Maximus's bomb would go off and annihilate the remaining islanders. The Purgatory unleashed a powerful earthquake while the participants were attempting to retrieve the eggs, burying them under rubble.

Thus began the frantic race to the boat. BadBoyHalo, Cellbit, Foolish, Maxo, and Tina were all unable to make it back. Baghera stayed behind on her own accord, refusing to leave without her daughter.

Purgatory yacht

At the end of the timer, the final cutscene showed the atomic explosion and the boat sailing away. The Watcher stated that he was the only one capable of dictating the real end of the Purgatory. There was another loading screen suggesting the loading of new games, new disasters, and a new difficulty level for the next players, but the cutscene ended before they could be revealed to us.
