Chapter 3

"Dadamon Battle" (ダダモンバトル Dadamon Batoru) is the third chapter of the PPPPPP manga series.

Summary

Lucky goes to visit his mom after finding out how much time she has left but is unable to bring it up to her.

Lucky is struggling to understand the feeling of Pavane pour une infante défunte, the piece he will have to battle against Ako Furusu to determine who Hideo Dada will teach. Lucky arrives at school and sees Furusu sleeping by a tree. He heads to the library to research the song. He finds an interview of Meloli Yamanaka, a famous keyboard player for a band, in which she talks about Pavane. Lucky realises he's always playing for his mum when playing the piano and needs to think of something else.

Hideo Dada gives lucky some advice to (1) Think of the essence of the piece. (2) Take someone with you... (3) ...to another place. He tells Lucky they can talk more about his ability if he wins and leaves.

Lucky hears Mazeppa by Liszt coming from the practice room next door. He goes to look and Furusu is the one playing.

Lucky goes to a convenience store and finds Furusu woking at the till. She reveals she is poor and also works at a supermarket. Her mum comes in and Furusu explains her mother's past and why Furusu hates Gakuon Otogami.

On the day of the battle Lucky plays first and switches his mum for Furusu's in his head. This leads Furusu to see a vision of her mum patting her head playing the piano like she used to. She is shocked and calls it creepy as she storms out the door. Lucky runs after her and she thanks him for his piano playing that "grants wishes". She also apologises for disrespecting him.

They both go back to the practice room and Dada reveals he decided to teach both of them all along and that they're going to the Sendai International Music Competition.
