Victory

The Victory was an English lugger captained by Nathaniel Hawk during the 1630s in the South Caribbean archipelago.

History

The Victory was en route to Oxbay island carrying sandal and chocolate when a storm struck. The storm heavily damaged her and several crew were washed overboard. The ship's captain, Nathaniel Hawk, had to use the gold obtained from selling the cargo for repairs and new crewmembers.

When she was fully accounted for, Nathaniel left Oxbay, only to discover a French squadron on its way to invade the colony. Nathaniel barely slipped past the onslaught, and noticed one other ship which escaped.

The Victory was presumably sold to another shipyard at some point later in exchange of a more powerful vessel with the same name.

Design and appearance

The Victory was a fast and lightly-armed small merchant ship, arming twelve 12-pounder cannons with a maximum speed of nearly 17 knots. Under Captain Hawk's command, she was never sunk, but the dangers posed by the Caribbean sea, such as storms and pirates, necessitated her eventual replacement with a superior vessel.

Behind the scenes

In the invasion of Oxbay cutscene, the narrator announces that "a single sloop" - referring to the Victory - escapes the French fleet. However, the Victory is a lugger, not a sloop.
