Misty Lady

"Now, it's high time I board the Misty Lady and make us all scarce. Mind terribly giving me a lift?"
Edward Teague to Jack Sparrow[src]

The Misty Lady was a rundown pirate ship that was captained by Edward Teague, the most wanted pirate on the Seven Seas as the Pirate Lord of Madagascar and Keeper of the Pirate Code of the Brethren Court. During young Jack Sparrow's early teenage adventures, the Misty Lady was used by Captain Teague during his quest to find his son, only to be chased by the combined forces of the British Royal Navy and the East India Trading Company.

History

Little is known of the early history of the Misty Lady other than that she was a pirate ship that would eventually be captained by Edward Teague, the most wanted pirate on the Seven Seas as the Pirate Lord of Madagascar and Keeper of the Pirate Code of the Brethren Court. Young Jack Sparrow would be familiar with the Misty Lady, knowing the rundown pirate ship's Jolly Roger, before running away as a teenage stowaway in his first year at sea.[1][2]

After the incident with the Timekeeper, Jack Sparrow and Fitzwilliam P. Dalton III spotted the Misty Lady being chased by a fleet of British Royal Navy and East India Trading Company ships in their direction.[1] By the time Jack managed to throw the treacherous Fitz overboard, the Lady had managed to catch up with the Barnacle, and Teague insisted on bringing his unwilling son aboard his ship for rescue. Shortly afterwards, the ship came under attack from the enemy fleet, and as Teague's crew returned it in kind, the Misty Lady was engaged in a full-out battle the likes of which Sparrow had never seen before.[2]

During the fight, the Misty Lady was invaded by Admiral Lawrence Norrington and his officers, who had all the crewmen onboard bound and brought back to his ship. After the crew managed to free themselves with the help of double-dealing officer Joshamee Gibbs, the majority of the crewmen returned to the Lady, with the exception of Teague and Jack. Another massive cannon fight ensued between the Lady and Norrington's vessel, during which Teague's crew managed to batter Norrington's ship, rendering it defenseless. With Norrington's crew defeated, Teague and Jack made their way back to the Misty Lady, and Teague sailed his son to an extremely beautiful island near Poseidon's Peak so he could procure himself a new boat.[2] The further fate of the ship is unknown.

Design and appearance

The Misty Lady was a rundown pirate ship, a huge reddish boat that dwarfed the Barnacle. Its Jolly Roger was a skeleton holding a speared heart in its hand. A figurehead of a "woman with a tail for legs" decorated its bow, and along the ship's side was the name "Misty Lady."[1]

Behind the scenes

The Misty Lady first appeared in the Rob Kidd books Jack Sparrow: Dance of the Hours and Jack Sparrow: Sins of the Father, both published in 2007, where it was identified as the pirate ship of Captain Teague.[1][2]

It's possible the Misty Lady made an appearance in the 2007 film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.[3] Two different ships were shown flying Teague's Jolly Roger before and after the final battle, one from the mainmast and one from the stern flagstaff. Teague was shown standing on the quarterdeck of the second ship. It's also possible one ship is the Misty Lady and the other the Troubadour, Teague's ship from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Price of Freedom, a prequel novel where it was also established that Teague has a fleet of ships under his command.[4] However, the identity of both ships was never identified in the film nor by The Walt Disney Company.

In Jack Sparrow: Sins of the Father, the figurehead of the Misty Lady was described as "a woman with a tail for legs" and was pictured in one of the book's pages.[2] While unconfirmed, it appears to be similar to the figurehead of a mermaid seen in the opening scene of the 1989 film The Little Mermaid.[5]
