Fire is an elemental hazard appearing in every game of the Pikmin series, first appearing in Pikmin. Red Pikmin are the only type of Pikmin that are not affected by fire, and if any Pikmin of a different type touches fire, the top of its stem is ignited, and it proceeds to around in panic, wailing in agony. Fire can also damage leaders upon contact.
If a Pikmin is on fire, the leader can quickly use their whistle on the Pikmin to douse the fire and rescue the Pikmin from its panicked state. However, if this is not done quickly enough, the Pikmin's entire body succumbs to the flames and it perishes. Fire cannot spread between Pikmin, and any Pikmin caught on fire does not suffer any permanent injuries after being rescued.
One source of fire is the fire geysers, which release fire at regular intervals. Some enemies can generate fire, such as Fiery Blowhogs, which can spit out a stream of fire, and Fiery Bulblaxes. Others leave behind a trail of flame, like the Pyroclasmic Slooch
Pikmin burn up a lot faster in the the first game, in which they die within a very short amount of time. In Pikmin 3, they are additionally sent flying into the air when scorched. Ice Pikmin also burn faster than every other type in Pikmin 4.
Once the Forged Courage treasure is collected in Pikmin 2, the Scorch Guard item is acquired in Pikmin 3, or the Scorch Guard is purchased in Pikmin 4, the active leader gains immunity to fire. In Pikmin 4, a separate Scorch Guard must be purchased for Oatchi for him to be invulnerable.
