Century Toad

The Century Toad (also known as Armored King Toad/Monster Toad) is the first boss of Phoenotopia and an optional boss in Phoenotopia: Awakening. As his name implies, he is a gigantic, monstrous toad. His body is almost entirely covered in stony armor, and he can only be damaged by landing hits on his butt, the one area that isn't covered. He is encountered in Duri Forest Ruins in Phoenotopia, and in Anuri Temple in Phoenotopia: Awakening.

Phoenotopia

The Armored King Toad's battle is simple and easy, since he remains stationary for most of the battle and has simple attack patterns.

The first thing he does is stomp the ground to trigger an earthquake that causes Duri Fruits (and sometimes Slimes) to fall from the ceiling. After that, he'll inhale deeply, pulling everything to his mouth. He will then spit the Duri Fruits he will have swallowed at Gale.

To attack him, Gale needs to use the Slingshot to launch a stone at the bunch of Duri Fruits hanging over him. This will cause a fruit to fall on the Century Toad, prompting him to turn around. As long as he's turned around, Gail can attack his unarmored weak point. Eventually, the Century Toad will recover and jump to the other side of the arena, resetting the cycle.

The more damaged he is, the more fruits and Slimes will fall from the ceiling.

After being defeated, the Century Toad will give up and escape the room, and large boxes will drop from the sky, allowing Gail to explore further into the temple.

The Duri fruits that are broken during the fight will not drop Duri Fruits (the collectible) but their seeds can still be eaten, allowing Gale to regenerate hit points.

Phoenotopia: Awakening

The Century Toad returns in this game, completely remodeled both visually and attack-wise.[1] His battle is more difficult this time around, befitting his new status as a secret optional boss in Anuri Temple. Gail can hit his weak spot at any time without having to hit him with a Doki Fruit.

He follows a pattern of attacks that goes as follows:

  1. He'll try to jump on Gail up to four times. If Gail is close to the Century Toad when he lands, she'll get knocked back by the impact of him hitting the ground.
  2. Then he'll jump up into the sky and lands in the middle of the screen, causing debris, Doki Fruits, and Gummies to fall from the ceiling.
  3. Next he'll try to inhale Gail. If he manages to suck her in, she'll be stuck in his mouth and take damage over time until she attacks enough to make the Century Toad spit her out. If he inhales any Gummies, they'll give him a small amount of health. Gail can take this opportunity to toss up some Bombs to try to make the Century Toad eat them, which will do heavy damage to him. The pattern restarts after this attack.

In addition to this, the Century Toad also uses one last attack when defeated, which scatters debris all over the room as he flees.
