Zant

Zant is the central antagonist of the Wii and GameCube video game The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, as well as its HD remake on the Wii U. He is also known as the Usurper King. Prior to the events of the game, Zant stole the throne from Midna in the Twilight Realm. His entire body is covered and you only see his face revealed near the end of the game. Despite his menacing look, he's rather childish at times and isn't the primary antagonist; that role was later revealed to be Ganondorf. In fact, Zant is considered one of Ganon's minions.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Zant

In the game, Zant is a peasant in the Twilight Realm who wishes that he was the king of the Twilight Realm. Ganondorf then approaches Zant and tells him that he is a god.

Ganondorf promises Zant that he can make Zant become the ruler of the Twilight Realm. By giving Ganondorf's powers to Zant, Zant became powerful and overthrew the Kingdom of the Twilight Realm. Zant then stole the Fused Shadows from Midna and leaves her to die in the Light World but not until after using his minion King Bulblin to shroud the Light World in Twilight starting with Hyrule Castle Town. Later, finding out that Midna is alive and has brought together the four Fused Shadows he had placed to try to keep the Light World in darkness he steals the Fused Shadows and then burns her with the light ball from a Light Spirit leaving her weak and helpless with Wolf Link. The pair get to Zelda and Midna is healed, but Zelda's and Midna's spirits are temporally combined. Then, splitting with Ganondorf Zant travels back to the Twilight Realm while resurrecting Stallord and splitting the Mirror of Twilight into shards. He then lays in wake inside the Twilight Realm as Ganondorf begins his attack upon Hyrule Castle starting by putting a protective crystal around Hyrule Castle immediately after Wolf Link and Midna teleported out of Zelda's room. After collecting the Mirror Shards and having a battle with Zant at the Palace of Twilight, he is finally killed by Midna who uses the power of the Fused Shadows to kill him. He is though later seen in a vision at Ganondorf's death where Zant cracks his own neck as though somehow he may have been partly the cause of Ganondorf's death.

Boss Battle

Phase one

Zant will teleport you to the room where you fought the Twilt Parasite Diababa. He will float above the poison and shoot the same purple orbs as the Zant Head turrets. Link must throw the Gale Boomerang to knock him down and attack with the Light Sword. After Zant has been hit several times, the battle will change to phase two.

Phase two

Zant will teleport you to the floating lava platform in the Goron Mines. He will jump around like crazy and shoot his orbs. This jumping will require Link to stay in place with the Iron Boots. After Zant is done jumping, he will get tired. This is your chance to slice him with your sword. Now let's move on to phase three.

Phase three

In this phase, you will be teleported underwater in Morpheel's boss room. The phase starts with a giant Zant helmet rising from under the sand. The helmet's mouthpiece will open and Zant will shoot his orbs. After he is done doing that, it's your chance to use the Double Clawshots to grab him and hit him with the sword. After he has been hit a couple times, the helmet will go back under the sand and four more will appear. It's your job to guess which one Zant is hidden in. After you have hit Zant with the sword a few more times, Zant will begin phase four of the battle.

Phase four

Phase four takes place in the room where you fought Ook in the Forest Temple. Zant will jump around on the poles and shoot his orbs. You must roll into the one Zant is standing on two times to knock him off. Once you've done this you can hit him with your sword. After he's taken enough damage, he will start phase five.

Phase five

This phase of the battle takes place in the room where you fought Blizzeta. Zant will become giant and attempt to crush you. After he lands, that's your chance to hit his foot with the Ball & Chain which will make him become tiny. This is your opportunity to hit him with your sword. Once he's been hit enough times, Zant has had enough of warmup and begins the final phase!

Phase six
Zant Boss Battle final phase

This phase of the fight takes place in Hyrule Field during twilight. Zant will equip two blades and swing them violently at Link. Zant will eventually start spinning around as well. Eventually he will even add teleportation to his attacks. After he has taken enough damage, his blade attacks will become even faster and he will start mixing up his attacks. Link's reflexes must be very high to survive this phase. This phase will continue until Zant is defeated.
