SCENE 1 | Big Bird listens to Maria fielding a phone call at the Fix-it Shop in Spanish, marveling at how well she's able to do it. She lists the benefits of being bilingual, as she can talk to more people and read different kinds of books. Big Bird goes on to Hooper's Store for some birdseed and finds Mr. Hooper taking an order over the phone from Ms. Cezarro. He's speaking in another language as well - in this case, Yiddish, which his parents taught him when he was young. Big Bird feels a little left out when he steps outside in the yard, where Herry converses with his monster pal in their own monster language about a big rock contest. |
