Dragonshy is the seventh episode of the first season of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. In this episode, the smoke of a sleeping dragon disrupts the skies of Equestria, and the Mane Six are tasked with convincing it to leave, much to Fluttershy's dismay. The episode's title is a portmanteau of "dragon" and "Fluttershy".
Production
This is the first episode to feature a more generic font in the closing credits, compared to the fancier font used in earlier episodes.
Two scenes from the episode are reused in the clip show mini-series Friendship is Forever: Pinkie Pie's wacky costumes appear in Cakes for the Memories, and Rainbow Dash kicking Razer's snout appears in Deep Tissue Memories.
Summary
The smoke
While Fluttershy feeds the animals around her cottage, her pet bunny Angel makes her aware of an ominous cloud of black smoke heading towards Ponyville. She rushes into town to warn everyone but is unsuccessful due to her soft voice. However, Twilight Sparkle soon arrives and loudly announces the danger to the town, indicating that the smoke is coming not from a fire but from a dragon.
Preparing for the journey
The Mane Six gather inside the Golden Oak Library, where Twilight relays news from Princess Celestia that a dragon has chosen to nap at the top of a nearby mountain. Celestia explains that the smoke results from the dragon's snoring and tasks them with asking him to nap elsewhere. She warns that, if they fail, Equestria will be covered in smoke for the next hundred years. All of Twilight's friends react to the mission with excitement except for Fluttershy.
The ponies suit up for their journey and rendezvous in front of the library, where Twilight explains that they need to keep a good pace in order to summit the mountain by sundown. Fluttershy tries to excuse herself from the mission, but Twilight insists that her skill with animals will be important to their success. Rainbow Dash suggests to Twilight that Fluttershy will only slow them down, though her concerns are dismissed. The group head out toward the mountain, carrying Fluttershy with them as she cries out in protest.
Climbing the mountain

The Mane Six arrive at the mountain and begin to ascend, but when Fluttershy balks in fear of the steep slope, Applejack offers to guide her up a different path while the rest of the group take the planned route. They eventually reunite partway up the mountain and continue ascending until they encounter a narrow chasm. Everyone readily jumps across except Fluttershy, who is too afraid to try until Pinkie Pie sings an encouraging song.
Past the chasm, the group find themselves in an avalanche zone and proceed silently. As they walk, Fluttershy becomes started by a falling leaf and shouts, triggering a rock slide that nearly buries the group and deposits a large stone pile in their path. They climb over the pile and at last reach the cave where the dragon is resting. Twilight Sparkle tries to bring Fluttershy inside with her to help her talk to the dragon, but Fluttershy refuses, revealing that she is afraid of fully-grown dragons. After failing to embolden her, the rest of the group decide to finish the job on their own.
Confronting the dragon
One by one, the ponies attempt different methods to convince the dragon to leave: Twilight appeals to reason, Rarity makes flattering comments, and Pinkie Pie tries to entertain with a silly costume. When these efforts fail, Rainbow Dash flies into the cave and kicks the dragon between the nostrils, causing him to become enraged and attack the ponies. A breath of smoke knocks them into a rock, which crumbles to reveal Fluttershy hiding behind it.
Seeing her friends dazed by the attack, Fluttershy flies up and scolds the dragon for his aggressiveness toward them. The dragon, cowed by Fluttershy's tone, tries to justify his anger as a reaction to Rainbow Dash's kick. Fluttershy apologizes for Rainbow's actions but argues that he should have known better since he is bigger. She then admonishes him for sleeping in a place where his snoring could endanger the health of other creatures. The dragon attempts to argue back, but Fluttershy cuts him off and demands an apology, causing him to burst into tears. Fluttershy comforts the dragon, and amid cheers from her friends, he departs from the mountain.
Faith in your friends
After the group return to Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle relays their success to Princess Celestia and comments that friends can be a source of strength and that you should never lose faith in them. Just outside the library, Rainbow Dash is about to achieve a new ball-bouncing record but gets startled by Pinkie Pie mimicking the dragon's roar. Fluttershy glibly comforts Rainbow but is then startled herself by a falling leaf.

- Fluttershy: Yes. Because he wasn't a huge, gigantic, terrible, enormous, teeth-gnashing, sharp scale-having, horn-wearing, smoke-snoring, could-eat-a-pony-in-one-bite, totally-all-grown-up dragon.

- Twilight Sparkle: You mean getting rid of that dragon?
- Rarity: Oh. Yeah. Sure.
- Rainbow Dash: All right, that's it. We tried persuasion, charm... whatever it is Pinkie Pie does...
- Rainbow Dash: Pinkie Pie! You scared me! I mean... uh... You... broke my concentration.
- Fluttershy: It's okay, Rainbow Dash. Not every pony can be as brave as me.
