Janvar

Janvar was a planet located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant.

History

Janvar appeared green and lacked distinguishing features when seen from orbit. The outskirts of its capital city were barren with distant rolling hills and no apparent plant life.

The planet had been at peace for centuries, but an attempted planetary coup led Janvarians to place their criminals' bodies in stasis while exiling their conscious minds aboard space probes.

In 2267, Janvar was first charted by the Federation when it was visited by the USS Enterprise. The starship encountered the Janvar Five probe and, being unaware of its true nature, traced it back to its homeworld. The imprisoned minds then telepathically freed their bodies from stasis. Six armed vehicles traveled over the surface to recapture them, but all were shot down with a disintegrator rifle. The bodies reached a launch facility and stole a rocket to take them to the Enterprise. But Spock over-extended the telepathic minds and their rocket blew up against the starship's deflector shields.

James T. Kirk chose to leave the planet in peace rather than pursue further contact. (TOS comic: "The Mindless Ones")
