Jay Johnstone is a British illustrator who depicts characters of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium in styles from the Middle Ages, especially Eastern Orthodox iconography.

He has collaborated at least twice with Tolkien scholar Thomas Honegger, on the books Tolkienography: Isildur's Bane & Iconic Interpretation and Tweaking Things a Little: Essays on the Epic Fantasy of J.R.R. Tolkien and G.R.R. Martin.
His work "Flight from Amon Hen" was one of three contenders for the Tolkien Society's Best Artwork award in 2017.[1]
