"R" (also stylized as "-R-") is the solo debut single album by Rosé. It was released on March 12, 2021 with "On the Ground" serving as the single's title track.
The physical release comes in three editions: CD, Kit, and vinyl (Limited Edition).
Background
On May 31, 2020, YGE announced that Rosé's solo debut was planned for September following the release of BLACKPINK's first full-length album, The Album.[1] On December 30, 2020, it was revealed that she would be filming her solo debut music video in mid-January 2021.[2]
On January 25, 2021, YGE confirmed that Rosé would premiere her solo song at the group's online concert BLACKPINK: The Show. At the concert, she performed "Gone", which was described as a "sub-title track".[3][4]
On February 10, it was revealed Rosé will make her official solo debut sometime in March.[5] On the midnight of March 2, teaser posters were released and confirmed the date to be March 12.[6] Another teaser poster released on March 4 confirmed that she would be released her first single album called "R".[7] The title is taken from the first letter of her name and means a new beginning as a solo artist.[8]

Goodies
Merchandise
On March 12, official merchandise was made available through Rosé's shop by Interscope Records.[9]
The same day, YG Entertainment revealed the official "R" merchandise collection, called "La Vie en Rosé", for pre-order on its official shop YG SELECT, with a release date on March 16.[10] Additional items were added for pre-order March 31, with a release date on May 6.[11]
The collection is described as featuring "cozy items that Rosé could keep or wear herself", and was designed with the help of Rosé herself, "imparting her unique and delicate touch".[12]
Photobook
A photobook was released on June 22, 2021. It is a 204-page photobook, with behind-the-scenes pictures taken during the album photoshoot and the "On the Ground" and "Gone" music video shootings. 3 photo cards and a sticker set are also included; pre-ordered copies also had a random Instax photo film or a random Polaroid photo card on top.
