The Debris Belt is a location introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Overview

The Debris Belt is a huge ring of junk, composed of old satellites, empty fuel tanks, destroyed spaceships, damaged mobile suits, and even the remains of destroyed colonies (like Junius Seven), which came into range of Earth’s gravity. Because of the gravity, wreckage from the belt sometimes spirals inward and falls on Earth. Hidden within the Debris Belt is the Graveyard, a makeshift space colony cobbled together from the remains of various spaceships and space stations.

History

Following the destruction of Junius Seven, the colony's wreckage made its way to the Debris Belt, where it was put in a stable orbit by the Junk Guild.^[1] On February 2, C.E. 71, Lacus Clyne was sent to the Debris Belt as part of a memorial delegation in memory of Junius Seven. Her ship came under attack by an Earth Alliance vessel and she was put into a Life Pod before it was destroyed.^[2] The following day, the Archangel entered the belt to get water supplies (which they got in the form of huge ice blocks). There, Strike Gundam pilot Kira Yamato encountered a GINN Long Range Reconnaissance Type searching for Lacus. When the GINN had spotted and attacked one of the Archangel's MAW-01 Mistral mobile armors, Kira was forced to destroy it. Afterward, Kira found Lacus' Life Pod and brought her to the Archangel.^[3]

On October 2, C.E. 73, the ZAFT battleship Minerva followed the Phantom Pain stealth ship, the Girty Lue, into the Debris Belt, and the two groups battled before the Girty Lue escaped.^[4]
