Wu "Kenny" Lee (李武, Lǐ Wǔ) is the main antagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
Prior to his physical debut, he was briefly mentioned in Grand Theft Auto IV.
History
Background
Wu Lee was born c. 1960 in China. He was the younger brother of Mr. Lee, the boss of the Lee Family and the favourite to succeed Hsin Jaoming as head of the Liberty City Triads, and the uncle of Huang Lee, the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Wu moved to Liberty City in the mid-1990s and opened a restaurant called Sum Yung Gai in Cerveza Heights. He also earned the nickname "Kenny".
According to the LCPD Database in Grand Theft Auto IV, Kenny was arrested in 1996 for possession of stolen property, in 1998 for petit larceny, in 2001 grand larceny, in 2002 for Arson and in 2006 for extortion. In his file, the police also say he is suspected of being the second most powerful Triad boss in Liberty City.
At some point, Kenny became the leader of a group of North Korean assassins from within the Midtown Gangsters in Bohan, who refer to themselves as the Wonsu Nodong.
In 2009, as part of a "loyalty test" given by the Liberty City Triads leader Hsin Jaoming, Kenny is asked to steal the Yu Jian Sword (the keeping for the head of the family as part of their tradition) from his brother in Kowloon in exchange for his Triad boss position, as he was planning to retire that year. Kenny had his brother killed so he could be the family's new patriarch, thus giving him the ownership of the Yu Jian Sword.
Events of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Kenny's nephew Huang Lee travels to Liberty City to deliver the Yu Jian sword to him, as he is now the family's new patriarch. However, Kenny ordered the Wonsu Nodong gang to steal the sword and kill Huang as soon as he arrives in the city. The sword is stolen and delivered to Kenny, but Huang manages to escape from the ambushers. To Kenny's surprise, Huang arrives at his restaurant in Cerveza Heights alive, with a bullet wound on his head.
Kenny tells him he wanted to give the Yu Jian to Hsin to cement his position as successor. Because of the loss, Kenny was dishonored and he and Huang struggled to keep business afloat. Kenny uses him as his muscle against his rivals, mostly telling him to raid the Spanish Lords drug businesses and steal their product, while misleading Huang, saying that he might find the Yu Jian.
Later, Hsin and Huang try to find the FIB informant causing trouble for the Triads. Hsin suspects Huang and attempts to kill him, but is stopped by Kenny. Kenny convinces Hsin to give Huang time to find the real informant, bringing haste to the mission. During the search, Kenny places "evidence" that narrows the search down to Zhou Ming and Hsin's son, Chan Jaoming. Disgraced by the fact that his own son is an informant, Hsin steps into retirement and appoints Kenny as the new head of the Triads.
In his first moments as the new leader of the Liberty City Triads, Kenny orders Huang to kill both Zhou and Chan. However, Huang's own police connection, Wade Heston, reveals that the evidence which incriminated both men was fake, and that the real rat is having a meeting with Wade's FIB inside man on Charge Island. Upon arrival, Huang is shocked and horrified to learn that the rat is none other than Kenny himself.
Huang and Heston pursue Kenny to Hsin's penthouse, where he is confronting Hsin with Yu Jian in hand. Huang finds out that Hsin was the one who ordered Kenny to steal the Yu Jian from Huang's father in Kowloon as part of a "loyalty test" in exchange for his Triad boss position after he retires. Hsin demands that Kenny hand over the weapon, and, with a touch of irony, Kenny responds by slashing Hsin with the weapon, heavily wounding him. Kenny attempts to kill Huang with the Yu Jian, but is killed by his nephew to avenge his father's death. Shortly after, a gravely wounded Hsin tells Huang that he has what it takes to be the next Triad boss, to which Huang has no immediate answer.
Character
Personality
Kenny is depicted at the first glance to be a caring uncle, trying to teach Huang the true values of being a triad. He is known to speak in an archaic way in almost any situation, even to the point Hsin Jaoming criticised him for that. Despite appearing as a good person at first, he betrays the Triad to secretly become its leader, showing his true manipulating nature.
