Fishing Rod

Cast into water, wait for a bob, REEL IT IN!
— In-Game Description

The Fishing Rod is a Ranged Consumable item that players can use in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was introduced in Chapter 2: Season 1.

Functionality

The Fishing Rod is used mainly to fish, but can also be used to pull items or opponents closer to the player, dealing no damage.

When using a Fishing Rod on open waters, the bobber will randomly sink into the water after a short period of time. Using the attack button at this instance will pull the line back and give the player an item. Using the rod on calm water will result in low tier loot, but using it on a Fishing Hole will award higher tier loot. The Player is able to move whilst fishing, but must stay close to avoid the line breaking.

Stats

The Fishing Rod deals no damage and can be used an unlimited amount of times.

Strategy Guide

This section outlines a strategy.
Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic.
  • The Fishing Rod can be used to deal damage to an enemy player by pulling them off a high structure, or be used to pull a knocked opponent close to you to easier obtain their loot. However this is very impractical.
  • The Fishing Rod can be used to obtain ammo or healing if you have some downtime in a match, however, you are very vulnerable when doing so.

Weapon ID

The Fishing Rod is referred to as Flopping Rabbit in the files.

Trivia

  • Before these functions were removed:
    • The Fishing Rod was only item that could have been upgraded rather than sidegraded into a different item (Pro Fishing Rod).
    • The Fishing Rod was the only item that could have been upgraded from Common to Rare, skipping over Uncommon.
    • When riding a Loot Shark, there is a chance the Fishing Rod will break, making it unusable.
  • The Fishing Rod is tied with the Pistol, Assault Rifle, and Rusty Can for the longest lasting non-healing item in Battle Royale. All three lasting 16 seasons in a row before being removed.
