The Second Seal is a promotional item that first appeared in Fire Emblem Awakening.
Overview
A Second Seal is an item that permits a given unit who is at least Level 10 and above to reclass. Once reclassed, they will start off at Level 1, and their stats will be modified to suit the selected class. Use of a Second Seal allows units to adopt classes outside of their default class lines.
In Awakening, Second Seals can first be bought at the Mila Tree after Chapter 16 or, if Olivia, Cordelia, or Nowi have been married before that, as early as Chapter 14 after completing Paralogue 6, Paralogue 10, or Paralogue 16 respectively. Second Seals can also be purchased from random Merchants after Chapter 4 is completed if the item is in their stocks.
In Fire Emblem Engage, Second Seals are available for purchase at the item shop on the Somniel. They can also be found in some treasure chests.
Mechanics
Second Seals have different applications given the context of a unit's level and class:
- A first-tier class unit can use this seal starting at Level 10 to change into another first-tier class in that character's class set. However, they cannot use the Second Seal to promote into the second tier.
- A second-tier class unit can use the Second Seal at any level to demote to a first-tier class of any class line.
- A second-tier class unit at Level 10 can be reclassed into a second-tier class belonging to a different class line.
- A special-class unit that cannot promote is treated as a first-tier unit, and can use the Second Seal once they reach Level 10. At Level 30, they are treated as a second-tier class.
- A unit at max level in any class can reset their level back to 1 without a change in stats by using a Second Seal and choosing their current class.
A Second Seal cannot reclass a unit into a class from which they are normally restricted, such as classes that are unique to specific characters, or classes that are locked to units of the opposite gender.
