Detailed walkthrough

The core objective of the quest series is winning at or around a set maximum amount of chips from gambling in either blackjack, roulette, or slots at the various casinos around the Mojave Wasteland.

  • Completion is not just about the chips. In every casino, the player character has the ability to win 3 rewards before being banned; however, if one breaks the house limit before getting any of the 3 rewards, they will be banned as per the usual but will not receive the compensation reward(s) they missed by breaking the bank early (e.g. betting the max and hitting the x100 jackpot on a slot machine). As a result, sometimes one may want to start with something other than slots.

Each casino has their own marks for compensation rewards and the limit at which the player character will get banned.

Keep in mind that the player character's Luck attribute factors significantly. The higher their Luck, the more likely they will win at blackjack, hit the jackpots on slots and have at least one of their bets on the roulette tables win. For example, if the player character has a Luck stat of 10, and has a 19 in blackjack, they can feel free to double down, because there's a good chance of getting a 2.

Vikki and Vance Casino

Located in Primm slightly northwest of the Bison Steve Hotel, the Vikki and Vance Casino is not initially available for gambling. Accessing the gambling floor requires first rescuing Deputy Beagle from the escaped convicts in the Hotel during the main quest They Went That-a-Way, followed by completing the side quest My Kind of Town to recruit a new sheriff to protect Primm. After at least 73 in-game hours, one must return and enter the casino to deal with Layla and her group of thugs during the unmarked quest A Team of Moronic Mercenaries. After another 73 in-game hours, the casino will re-open and one can play blackjack, roulette, and slots in the center room.

The chips thresholds and their associated prize winnings at this casino are as follows:

After winning 2,500+ chips, the player character will be banned from playing games in the Vikki and Vance Casino. They can still use its other functions, like the bar, but they cannot gamble on its tables anymore. This ban is permanent.

Atomic Wrangler Casino

Located in Freeside across the street from the Silver Rush in the southwestern section, the Atomic Wrangler Casino is run by the Garret twins, James and Francine. The gambling floor with blackjack and roulette is located on the ground floor on the opposite side from the bar, while slots are adjacent to the bar's left end.

The chips thresholds and their associated prize winnings at this casino are as follows:

After winning 5,000+ chips, the player character will be banned from playing games in the Atomic Wrangler casino. They can still use its other functions, like the bar and the services of the prostitutes (if one completed the side quest Wang Dang Atomic Tango), but cannot gamble on its tables anymore. This ban is permanent.

Gomorrah

Located in the northernmost section of the New Vegas Strip across from the entrance to the Lucky 38, Gomorrah is run by the Omertas of the Three Families, led by Big Sal and Nero (or Cachino if the side quest How Little We Know was completed by siding with him). The gambling floor with blackjack and roulette is found just after the main entrance.

The chips thresholds and their associated prize winnings at this casino are as follows:

After winning 9,000+ chips, the player character will be banned from playing games in the Gomorrah. They can still use its other functions, like the bar, but cannot gamble on its tables anymore. This ban is permanent.

The Tops

Located in the middle section of the New Vegas Strip across from the Las Vegas Boulevard Station, the Tops is run by the Chairmen of the Three Families, led by Benny (or Swank if the main quest Ring-a-Ding-Ding! was completed). The gambling floor with blackjack, roulette, and slots is found past the reception desk and staircase.

The chips thresholds and their associated prize winnings at this casino are as follows:

After winning 10,000+ chips, the player character will be banned from playing games in the Tops. They can still use its other functions, like the bar, but cannot gamble on its tables anymore. This ban is permanent.

Ultra-Luxe

Located in the middle section of the New Vegas Strip south of the Las Vegas Boulevard Station, the Ultra-Luxe is run by the White Glove Society of the Three Families, led by Marjorie. The gambling floor is found just after the main entrance. This casino is the only one in the game that does not offer slot machines, one can only play blackjack and roulette.

The chips thresholds and their associated prize winnings at this casino are as follows:

After winning 15,000+ chips, the player character will be banned from playing games in the Ultra-Luxe. One can still use its other functions, like the bar, but cannot gamble on its tables anymore. This ban is permanent.

Sierra Madre Casino

Note: Requires installing the Dead Money add-on.

Located within the Sierra Madre Casino & Resort, the casino is not initially available for gambling. Accessing the gambling floor requires advancing the main quest Put the Beast Down as far as entering the casino and avoiding the hologram security to reactivate the power to the building. The gambling floor with blackjack, roulette, and slots is found on the ground floor from the bar, with blackjack in a back room to the right and roulette and slots near the hologram cashier.

The chips thresholds and their associated prize winnings at this casino are as follows:

After winning 10,000+ chips, the player character will be banned from playing games in the Sierra Madre casino. They can still use its other functions, like the bar, but cannot gamble on its tables anymore. This ban is permanent.

Notes

  • Unlike the other casinos, there is no floor manager in the Atomic Wrangler Casino or Ultra-Luxe. For the former, when the player character reaches a chips threshold while gambling, a Jackpot sound will be heard and they automatically receive the prize(s), while the latter has a generic White Glove comes to the player character to reward them.
    • Dead Money The Sierra Madre's casino uses holograms as table managers; since the holograms do not talk to the player character, the award is automatically given once choosing the relevant "dialogue" option, and one will instead get a notification about the prize winnings and the eventual permanent ban.
  • Winning the maximum and receiving the permanent ban at all three casinos on the Strip during their associated quests will unlock the "The Courier Who Broke the Bank" achievement/trophy.
  • Dead Money If one wants to win the renewable supply of complimentary vouchers from the Sierra Madre casino, it is advisable to begin gambling as soon as the casino is available during Put the Beast Down, since as soon as one leaves the Sierra Madre to return to the Mojave Wasteland after finishing the Dead Money add-on, it is normally impossible to return again.

Bugs

PCPC When the player character is ejected from the play interface to receive their gift from the floor manager, if they begin playing again before the manager arrives and gives them their reward and wins enough to receive the next gift, the floor manager will give them that gift, and the player character will miss out on the earlier gift. This will not occur in the Sierra Madre, Vikki and Vance casino or the Atomic Wrangler, since the player character does not interact with floor managers in these casinos.[verified]
