EVERGLOW

ΣVΣRGLOW

Everglow (stylized as EVERGLOW or ΣVΣRGLOW) is a South Korea-based girl group under Yuehua Entertainment. They debuted on March 18, 2019, with their first single album ARRIVAL OF EVERGLOW.

History

Pre Debut

Before debuting Sihyeon was a part of Season 1 of the MNET survival show Produce 101. She competed as an individual trainee before signing with Yuehua and placed 40th. During that time Sihyeon said how she wished to get better which led her to compete in season 3 as well.

In the 3rd season, Yuehua trainees Choi Ye-na, Wang Yiren, and Kim Si-hyeon all competed in Produce 48. The girls performed the song by the British group Little Mix "Move". During that time Sihyeon placed 27th along with Yiren where they were both eliminated in Episode 11 in the 3rd Elimination.

2019: EVERGLOW's Debut, Kcon New York, HUSH, and FθRΣVΣR

On February 18, 2019, Chinese entertainment agency Yuehua announced that they would be debuting a six-member girl group called "Everglow". The group immediately gained attention for Sihyeon and Yiren, who were both former contestants on Produce 48 as well as for Onda, who was a former member of Idol School. This was the second time the agency had ventured into Kpop, first with the successful girl group WJSN (Cosmic Girls) and second with Everglow.

The members for the group were revealed through a series of video teasers entitled "Crank in Film"; these videos showcased the members' talents and each of their unique styles and color palettes.[1]

Everglow debuted on March 18, 2019, with the single album, ARRIVAL OF EVERGLOW, and the music video for its title track, Bon Bon Chocolat.[2]

Shortly after debuting, it was announced that Everglow would be performing at Kcon New York, as part of the KLUB KCON program along fellow Kpop rookie ATEEZ[3]. Shortly after the lineup was announced, KCON USA released a statement saying that Everglow would not be attending due to "unexpected visa issues"[4].

Almost a month after Kcon New York, Everglow announced that the group would be having a comeback with their second single album titled H : U : S : H. The album was released on August 19, 2019, with Adios serving as the album's title track. On the same day during the group's showcase for the album, they announced that their official fandom name would be FθRΣVΣR.

During preparations for the group's next comeback, the members made a cameo on the TvN drama "When The Devil Calls Your Name" in a 36-second-long clip during the eighth episode, where they performed Bon Bon Chocolat. This would be the acting debut of all six members.[5]

On September 11, 2019, during promotions for H : U : S : H, Yuehua Entertainment announced that both Mia and Aisha would not be appearing on Idol Radio due to health concerns. They also announced the entire group would be taking a break from promotions to celebrate the Korean national holiday Chuseok.[6]

Almost two weeks later, the group obtained their first win with Adios on The Show on September 24, 2019. Shortly afterwards the hashtags "#EVERGLOW1stWin" and "Adios1stWin" were trending worldwide on Twitter. The group won with 3,980 points for digital and physical sales, 3,720 points for SNS, experts, and pre-voting, and 161 points for live voting, making their total 7,861 points, beating nominees CLC and Dreamcatcher.[7]

2020: reminiscence, -77.82X-78.29

On January 19, 2020, the Everglow Staff Twitter announced the group would be making a comeback on February 3rd, 2020 with their first mini album, titled 'reminiscence'.[8] This also included a change to the group's logo, which they have done for every musical release.[9] The title track, DUN DUN, along with the rest of the album was released on February 3rd, 2020.

On September 13, a short video on Stone Music Entertainment's YouTube channel was released, teasing the second mini-album, as well as a minor logo change. Between this time and the release, the teaser for the LA DI DA music video, the tracklist and the album medley were all released. On September 21, 2020, the group's second mini-album, -77.82X-78.29 was released. The lead single, LA DI DA's music video released on the same day. There are also three other songs, UNTOUCHABLE, GxxD BOY and NO GOOD REASON.

On December 1, Yuehua Entertainment confirmed that Sihyeon and Yiren had tested positive for COVID-19.

2021: Last Melody, Leadership Change, RETURN OF THE GIRL

On January 9, 2021, Yuehua announced that Yiren and Sihyeon will be resuming activities after receiving a negative result on their final COVID-19 test.[10]

On May 6, it was announced on the girls social media accounts that they will be releasing their third single album, Last Melody on May 25.[11] On this day, they released their third single album and its title track "FIRST" with an accompanying music video. They held their comeback stage and performed with the title track just two days later on M Countdown.

On May 25, during the group's showcase for their third single album, it was announced that their leadership role, originally held by the eldest member E:U, had been passed on to Sihyeon. E:U had held the leader position since their debut more than two years prior; she disclosed that it "wasn’t hard while being the leader", but simply agreed that it was the best decision for the group and has full confidence in Sihyeon.

On August 25, the group released their first digital single "EVERGLOW FOR UNICEF PROMISE CAMPAIGN" or simply "PROMISE" in partnership with and in order to help promote UNICEF’s promise campaign.

On October 4, it was reported by Star News that the group would be making a comeback during the second half of the year.[12] On November 14, a teaser was released showcasing the six girls and revealing the name of their third mini album RETURN OF THE GIRL, set to be released on December 1.

2022: Yiren's hiatus, Pirate (R3HAB Remix), Aisha's hiatus, Ghost Light

On January 9, it was announced from Yiren that she would be taking a break from EVERGLOW temporarily as she will spend time with her family in China between mid-January to the end of February for academic schedules and will be taking a break from activities for the time being. The group will promote as five until she returns.[13]

On April 15, EVERGLOW and R3HAB released their first remix single, Pirate (R3HAB Remix).

On August 11, it was announced that Aisha would be taking a break from all activities due to health issues and is undergoing a thorough examination at the hospital.[14]

On November 7, EVERGLOW announced collaboration single with TheFatRat, Ghost Light.[15]

On November 15, it was announced that EVERGLOW would be going on tour in Southeast Asia. The dates and cities were revealed along with the name of the tour being EVERGLOW Southeast Asia Tour.[16] On December 8, Magic Sound K-Pop released a statement stating that EVERGLOW's upcoming tour, EVERGLOW Southeast Asia Tour, was canceled and that all tickets will be refunded.[17]

2023: "ALL MY GIRLS"

On July 26, the EVERGLOW Staff twitter account released a coming soon teaser for the group's upcoming comeback, which is set for release on August 18.[18] On the following day, it was announced that they will be releasing their fourth single album, "ALL MY GIRLS"[19]

2024: "ZOMBIE"

On May 20, EVERGLOW shared a 'coming soon' poster for their fifth single album "ZOMBIE", which is set to be released on June 10.[20]

Concept

The group name can be translated to “Always glowing” and thus reflects on the group’s strong will, energy, and potential as an upcoming group.[21] The logo itself features an uppercase sigma as the 'E' and an upside-down lowercase delta as the 'g'. These two Greek letters are commonly used to signify summation and change, which leads many to speculate that the logo represents members' different charms that will come together as one.[22]

When asked during the showcase for H : U : S : H what their goals are as a group, they responded, "We want to be known as the idols who dominate the stage. We want to hear that we’re a group that knows how to perform and shines on stage. Our goal no matter what is No. 1!"[23]

The group itself can be split up into two separate groups, one for darker, more "girl crush" concepts (E:U, Mia, and Aisha) and one for cuter concepts (Sihyeon, Onda, and Yiren). This idea was first introduced during the pre-debut Crank in Film videos.
