The Apothecary is a character featured in the Disneyland Paris attraction, Phantom Manor.
Background
This man served as an apothecary who ran a shop in the mining town of Thunder Mesa during the early 1860s. During his lifetime, he became the town's equivalent of a pharmacist who studied medicines, herbs, and concoctions. However, during an earthquake in 1860, the Apothecary died along with various other residents where the town where the man used to live in died into a canyon throughout the tragic incident. Following his death, he became an undead resident of the place that was later known as Phantom Canyon.
Role in Phantom Manor
Since opening day in Phantom Manor, the Apothecary appears during the Phantom Canyon sequence where he is seen running an apothecary shop. He is seen drinking his own concoctions via window throughout the Phantom Canyon sequence. Next to the apothecary himself is a saloon area where a pianist plays his piano.
Following the 2019 refurbishment, the Apothecary was given a redesign as part of the attraction's major refurbishment.
Trivia
- The Apothecary was inspired by the concept art of a scrapped mad scientist character designed by Ken Anderson who was supposed to appear in the Haunted Mansion attraction but was scrapped in the final version.
