Macki Macaw's is a pizza restaurant seen in Lilo & Stitch: The Series, which offers food, games, and entertainment. The show features a group of animatronic parrots called Macki Macaw and the Hammerheads, whose lead animatronic is named after the titular restaurant.
Background
Macki Macaw and the Hammerheads consists of four parrots who play various instruments; frontman Macki Macaw (who has red feathers, a straw hat and a blue flowered shirt) plays ukulele, an unnamed orange parrot (with a straw hat and teal flowered shirt) plays bongos, an unnamed blue parrot (with a straw hat and, for some reason, a long sleeved green flower shirt) plays accordion/concertina, and an unnamed green parrot (with a pink flowered shirt) plays maracas.
In the episode "Phantasmo", Lilo, Stitch, Nani, Jumba, and Pleakley are all seen at the restaurant enjoying pizza and watching the entertainment. At a nearby stage, the Macki Macaw animatronic suddenly malfunctions, much to the disappointment of the children. Meanwhile, Stitch wins a pearl oyster after playing the crane game, containing Experiment 375's (Phantasmo's) pod inside its shell. When the pod is later activated, Phantasmo wreaks havoc around the house. Phantasmo is eventually discovered and chased down by Lilo, Stitch, Nani, Jumba, and Pleakley into the restaurant, where he goes backstage and possesses the broken Macki Macaw animatronic. After Lilo opens the stage's curtain, Phantasmo puts on a show for an audience, thus finding his one true place entertaining children while inside the animatronic parrot.
Trivia
- The restaurant is an obvious parody of the real-life restaurant chain Chuck E. Cheese's. Parodies of the chain are a very common trope in Western animation.
- Macki Macaw and the Hammerheads are an obvious parody of the Pizza Time Players and its later successor Munch's Make Believe Band. The orange parrot (and lone female character) is based on Helen Henny, the blue parrot is based on Pasqually the Chef, and Macki Macaw is obviously a parody of the titular mouse mascot Chuck E. Cheese. The green parrot, however, is an obvious parody of Jasper T. Jowls, but Jasper plays the guitar, not the maracas. However, given that it is themed after the tropics, this can be justified about the green parrot.
- The restaurant could also be a reference to Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room and the fact that it was originally intended to be a restaurant.
