Deep Trent

"Deep Trent" is the first segment of the eleventh episode of the Disney Channel animated series StuGo.

Synopsis

ASININE ASSIGNMENTS! Merian tries to save Dr. Lullah's fish counter from a life of busy work.

Plot

The kids are interacting with a mysterious pipe sticking out of the water by tossing things down in it, such as gummi bears and scorpions, keeping track of what it "likes" and "doesn't like". Merian tells them to stop messing with the pipe and to help clean the submarine for Dr. Lullah so that they can potentially be given a higher job position on the island. The other kids tell her that Dr. Lullah only cares about being left alone and that the submarine job is simply so that they can do something away from her. Nevertheless, Merian convinces them to use the submarine to at least find out what is down below. Upon reaching the bottom, they discover a woman in a diving suit.

The woman is named Mariana Trent, who holds an actual degree and was hired by Dr. Lullah, presumably, many years ago. She too came for a major position, but was only tasked with counting fish. Realizing that the rest of the kids were right and that potential is being wasted, Merian decides to bring Mariana back up to argue with Dr. Lullah who unenthusiastically fires Mariana. Mariana is saddened, mainly because she actually misses counting fish and can only think of doing so. Merian goes back to Dr. Lullah in an effort to get her her job back, but she turns her down. Instead, she puts Merian in Mariana's old job, much to her chagrin.

Merian continues with counting the fish, before noticing that there is an unusual pattern to how they are spotted (this was pointed out earlier by Mariana, but dismissed by Merian). Merian takes this to Mariana and the learn that the fish are part of a longform message from the Mer-people who are plotting to attack the surface. They take this news to Dr. Lullah who confronts the mer-people. Rather than fight them, Merian and Mariana convince Dr. Lullah to stop dumping toxic waste into the ocean, allowing the mer-people to leave in peace. Mariana is given her old job of counting fish back and Merian decides to make it her job to feed her through her breathing tube.
