The Bass Frog is a character at the Disney Parks.
History
Background
The Bass Frog is an anthropomorphic guitarist frog. In the "Modern Times" sequence of the attraction, he would sing alongside with the Hippie Stork, for the song "Shake, Rattle and Roll".
Development History
The Bass Frog character was created for the America Sings attraction at Disneyland in the Tomorrowland section where he was placed in the "Modern Times" sequence where he sings the song "Shake, Rattle and Roll" alongside with the Hippie Stork, which opened on June 29, 1974. However, America Sings closed on April 10, 1988 in order to retheme the attraction to Innoventions, with the Bass Frog and most of the animatronics moved to Splash Mountain at the Frontierland section at Disney World, and at the Critter Country section at Tokyo Disneyland, which opened on October 1 and October 2, in 1992, still featuring the Bass Frog in the finale sequence.
As of 2020, Splash Mountain has been announced for closure to remove all references to Song of the South in order to retheme it into a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction, due to controversy surrounding Song of the South which the attraction itself is based on. The Oriental Land Company, however, has not yet announced plans whether to retheme the Tokyo version of Splash Mountain or not.
The Magic Kingdom version of Splash Mountain in Disney World, permanently closed on January 23, 2023. But in one concept art designed by Sharika Mahdi, featured the Bass Frog at Fleur du Bayou. However, the idea for the Bass Frog to appear in the retheme attraction was scrapped, but can still be seen on merchandise for Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
America Sings
The Bass Frog was featured during the former attraction's final act, "Modern Times" where he is playing, "Shake, Rattle and Roll", alongside with the Hippie Stork. Throughout the sequence, he is seen singing in front of the audience playing his lute guitar, where the sequence loops into another song consisting of a medley between "Twistin' USA".
Splash Mountain
In the Florida and Tokyo of Splash Mountain, The Bass Frog can be seen at the end of the attraction, singing the musical number "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" along with a whole chorus of animals welcoming Br'er Rabbit in his home at the Briar Patch after escaping from Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear.
