Buford is the pet of Br'er Bear that appeared in the Big Bad Wolf comics.

Big Bad Wolf
Zeke Wolf spotted Br'er Fox as he was stealing Br'er Bear's chickens from out the hen coop, then he walked away saying stuff about Br'er Fox, until then he heard a howl who was making that sound. So he checked to see who was making that sound until he saw that it was a dog that was howling and wondered why it was left out alone. The dog then sees the Big Bad Wolf as his tail was wagging, until Zeke tells it to go back to it's master, making the dog sad.
He then decides to keep the dog, which makes the dog happy, as his own hunting dog, as he then checks his sharp and notices that the dog is also a fast one too. His plan was to eat the Three Little Pigs since Br'er Fox was eating chicken, until he spotted the Three Little Pigs and told the dog to hunt them down. However, the dog played with the pigs instead, which made Zeke furious, but then began to teach the dog how to attack its prey.
After hours of training, Zeke decided to take the dog to the Three Little Pigs' home, but tried to open the door as the door was locked. He then decided to wait for them to come out, but it would take all day, so he decided to go back to Br'er Bear's hen coop and told the dog to hunt the chickens this time instead of pigs. Later, Br'er Bear was out in his hen coop, which made Zeke hide in a bush as Br'er Bear was explaining to Br'er Fox that he had just got a dog to guard his chickens, but couldn't be able to find his pet would which made him angry if someone stole him.
Zeke began to realize that the dog he trained was Br'er Bear's owner, and told it to go back to him. Br'er Bear then spotted the dog and was happy to see him as he called the dog his official name "Buford", as he hugged his pet dog. Then Br'er Fox spotted Zeke as his stomach growled, which made Br'er Bear angry, as Buford chased Zeke along with Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox.
