Miettevin

Miettevin is a town located in Sanctuary.

Lore

Miettevin was located close to the River Fogswell.^[1] It included a Zakarum church^[2] which held the jawbone of Saint Alavaine,^[3] and town square.^[4] The church was overseen by Prior Niv.^[5]

History

Miettevin was established before the coming of Zakarum. The faith established a cloister in the town,^[2] which was protected by temple knights.^[1] Indulgences were given to the priests at the cloister, who profited off them.^[6]

The town's fortunes changed with the coming of a thief known as the Mountebank. Posing as a priest and using the pseudonym of "Prior Niv," she gathered hundreds of written indulgences from the cloister. She scattered them in the street, spurring anger against the faith's profiteers.^[6] Later she infiltrated the church's reliquary to steal the Alavaine's jawbone.^[3]

The Mountebank later set the church's cloister on fire. As she watched from the hills, the Paladin Gurdannel caught her and ran her through, though she leapt to her death with a smile.^[2] She fell to earth near the town square. Stolen indulgences fluttered about her like feathers. Once townsfolk recognized her body, they killed Gurdannel.^[7] A statue was erected in her honor.^[4]

Miettevin was apparently abandoned after the uprising against Zakarum. Its square was left overgrown with kudzu, its cobbles split by violent upheaval and streets emptied by revolution. Yet the features of the Mountebank's stone statue look as if they were chiseled yesterday. Somehow, it is rinsed and wiped free of dirt at each new moon.^[4]
