Daedessa

Daedessa the Builder was a nephalem.

Biography

Long before the rise of humanity, Daedessa constructed the city of Corvus. One of her companions, Lidar, infused the city with a form of magic that would ward off trespassing angels and demons.[2]

KionDaedessa

Daedessa wanted to protect Sanctuary from demonic invasion, but while powerful, she wasn't a fighter. She was, however, a master crafter, and she created a powerful artifact called the Eternal Crown.[3] In Corvus,[4] she gave it to her son, Kion, and charged him with forming a group whose sole purpose would be the protection of Sanctuary from the Burning Hells.[3] The group was called the Immortals, and she worked the resplendent armor of the greatest of their number.[5]

Shadow Mandate

However, Daedessa knew that power could lead to complacency and corruption for even the best intentioned individuals, so to this end, entrusted her daughter, Akeba, with a secret burden; to ensure that the Immortals would never waver or falter, that they were always capable of defending Sanctuary, to establish a group of her own specifically for such purpose, the Shadows.[3]

After the first turn of the Cycle, Daedessa mourned her son, but was proud of the proof that the Cycle worked. It is believed that the words she whispered then were the last ones of motherly affection. Without a task or purpose to keep her occupied, her manner grew dim.[6] Sometime later, Daedessa disappeared.[5]

At a point, she came across the Blood Knights. She approved of their mission, and anointed them to fight the "invaders" (presumed to mean demons, vampires, or both).[1]
