Crests are objects used to activate the Elder Rift.
In 1270, the royal Mages of Westmarch ascertained the connection between the crests and the Rift. Permission was given to merchants to sell crests to adventurers.[1]
Gameplay
Crests are a gameplay item of Diablo Immortal. These items are optional when starting the Elder Rift.
Crests can either be earned or purchased. Using crests adds random modifiers that enhance gameplay, making an Elder Rift either easier or more challenging. Using a crest guarantees certain non-gear rewards such as runes and legendary gems. Crests also provide Fading Embers when used by at least one member of the party, and all players in the group will be rewarded with Fading Embers even if they do not use their own crest.[2]
Players can use up to 10 Crests in every Rift run.
There is a difference between ordinary Legendary Crest and the Eternal Legendary Crest that can be bought from the in-game store. The legendary gems found with Eternal Legendary Crests are not bound and can be sold in the Marketplace.
Used when opening an Elder Rift to add a modifier to the Rift. Completing the Elder Rift is guaranteed to reward Runes.

Trivia
- The face on the crests (see above) appears to be Daedessa's.
- One of the Story quests provides you with a Legendary Crest and tasks you with completing an Elder Rift. This special crest always rewards a Lightning Core (a 2-star gem) and 3 ATI runes. The latter is no longer a usable item, but can be exchanged for Telluric Fragments.
- The expected reward from a Legendary Crest is worth 2.99815 Gem Power, not counting the pity drop. This corresponds to about 533.66 Platinum per Gem Power when buying the crest for 1600 Platinum, so if gems are available on the market for 533 Platinum or less, buying from the market is cheaper than buying the crests. However when buying the crest specifically for using it in a Mirrored Jewels event, the reward counts double, so the price is equivalent to 266.83 Platinum per Gem Power. Since gems can't be put on the market for less than 400 Platinum, buying the crest for this purpose is always worth it. That said, the rarity of Mirrored Jewels compared to the number of crests that can be earned for free means for an active player this deal doesn't come into play, it only does if you can't earn 10 crests between two Mirrored Jewels events yet you still manage to earn 1600 Platinum to buy the crest.
History
In the April 10, 2024 update, the stack size of crests was increased from 99 to 9,999.
