WARNING! |
Banga (バンガ?) is a Sumerian who is the adoptive mother of Bamora. She was a former cook in a royal palace until the Kur's invasion of Sumer forced her to join an all-women's resistance against the invaders, meeting Tome and Aja.
Appearance
Banga is a stocky Sumerian woman with a hairstyle reminiscent of a shimada, with the back being a crown braid. As a Sumerian, she has antennas on the top of her head. On the left side of her face, she possesses two sharp lines (one above her eyebrow and another on her cheek) that are either scars or markings. For attire, she wears a dark long sleeve crop top sweater that is underneath a combat suit.
While on the spaceship, both of her cheeks have a band aid, with a smaller one being located above her right eyebrow.
Personality
Banga presents herself as a stern woman who became skeptical of her people's beliefs following the Kur invasion of their home. She regards her race as naive and holds them responsible for their planet's destruction, believing their blind faith in their god's protection led them to disregard the significance of their government. With the failure of divine protection to materialize, she has become a skeptic of the Sumerian god prophecy. Nonetheless, she occasionally finds herself compelled to pray to the deity, feeling ill at ease when she refrains. Banga also harbors disdain for men, perceiving their displays of bravery as mere posturing and deeming them cowards who flee in times of crisis. The fall of Sumer has driven Banga to adopt a self-reliant stance, prioritizing her own survival over the welfare of others, to the extent of expressing a willingness to sacrifice individuals if necessary.
Yet, Banga's actions have not aligned with her professed self-interest. Despite her pledge to self-preservation, she rescued Bamora from the battlefield and cared for her as she matured, despite rejecting Tome and Aja's pleas to assume guardianship. Consequently, Bamora came to regard Banga as a maternal figure, a label Banga resisted. Faced with a Sumerian pyramid gate that could transport only one individual to Earth, Banga chose to remain on Sumer, compelling Bamora to pass through the gate alone. This led to an emotional confession of Banga's deep affection for Bamora as they faced separation. Despite her disillusionment with her race, Banga has not abandoned hope for them, encouraging the captive Sumerian men to resist the Kur and entreating Bamora to perpetuate the Sumerian lineage by seeking a suitable partner on Earth.
Before the invasion, as a cook, Banga took pride in crafting enjoyable meals, asserting that she had refined her culinary skills for this very purpose.
Background
Past
Banga worked as a cook in a royal palace and she grew accustomed to making food the guests would be happy to eat. In the palace, she heard about the sumerian myth regarding the second homeland of the sumerian, Idea, and its means of travel.
Invasion of Sumer
Upon the alien invasion initiated by the globalists dubbed as the Kur, Banga joined an all-female resistance group to fight against them, with her main partners during the war being Tome and Aja. She picks up an abandoned child, Bamora, from a battlefield and brings her to safety. She then immediately has to wash the child's clothes, making her two squad mates laugh. Tome believes that Bamora might be the last sumerian child, however Banga points out that they are now fighting a losing war because they trusted other people, so whoever can't survive on his own should just die. The kid cries and her partners look at Banga, wondering what she's going to do with her.
Banga acts a mother figure for Bamora by carrying her, feeding her and teaching her. She takes her in front of a mural where the God of Sumer is depicted and instructs her to sit and pray. She explains how the God will save her, though she doesn't believe it in the slightest and prays just because she would feel sick if she didn't. Banga recalls of how the government and the men collapsed at the start of the invasion and not even God protected them, so she looks only after herself, even if she has to sacrifice others.
Bamora grows up with the three grannies and gets attached to Banga who she considers her mother. She gets mad but the kid ignores her. Tome and Aja consider Bamora the child of all the sumerians, which ticks off Banga even more. Their regiment is informed by scouts that more than three thousand sumerians are still alive and they venture to the West, with Banga forcing Bamora to stay at the center of the formation for better protection. In the middle of the jungle they stumble upon the Kur feeding the Big Mama with other sumerians, who Banga explains to the kid that the aliens are physically weak and make use of the exosuits the Mama produces for them. The God of Sumer exosuit gets crafted, which she calls the very embodiment of sumerian hate. She forces Bamora to leave the captive people behind and proceed towards the rendezvuos point.
On arrival, the field is empty and Banga spots a hologram and calls out for a retreat just as the Kur ambushes their regiment. Bamora freezes in fear but she picks her up, screaming at her to focus. Along with Tome and Aja, the four of them slip away and hide in a cave, all wounded and their spirits beat down. Bamora pulls out a bandage to stop her mother from bleeding out but she throws it away since it could be of better use to someone else. The kid can't comprehend her actions but she affirms that deep down, they are strangers, and the reason they lost the conflict is because they trusted others. While Tome and Aja leave to see the ocean before dying, Bamora lies on Banga's lap and begs to kill her. She loads her gun and aims, but she breaks down crying as she never wanted to be a soldier and fight.
The two hug for a moment when Banga remembers about the sumerian myth regarding Idea and they reunite with Tome and Aja to flee the planet. They sneak in the Kur's base in front of the pyramid and she suggests like Bamora to free the enslaved men being fed to Big Mama as they need numbers if they want to succeed. The girl frees one of the men which causes a scene and alerts the aliens, so the trio opens fire and they make a run for it. Banga pushes Bamora away from a barrage of missiles and gets heavily wounded. The latter tries to save her but she's brought away by Aja who reminds her that she's the last sumerian child and she has to survive for the future of their people. After they leave, Banga spots the God of Sumer exosuit in a container and crawls inside.
With her partners on the verge of defeat, Banga obliterates the Big Mama with the exosuit. The sumerian men celebrate the arrival of their God but she refuses to save them as they did not care about Bamora who tried to free them earlier. With a speech, she convinces the men to take their planet back from the invaders and to fight to the end to ensure the safety of the last sumerian child. The rebellion quickly overwhelms the alien forces and Bamora slips inside the pyramid while Tome and Aja deploy support fire. Inside, she's unable to decipher the royal tablet and she's again helped by Banga, her body bleeding and full of bruises, who activates the warp gate.
She hands the exosuit to her daughter and pushes her inside as the teleporter has enough energy for just one person. Banga, on the verge of tears, instructs Bamora to start a new life on Idea and marry a strong man to ensure the birth of strong kids, which is the only way to give solace to their species. Bamora screams out "Mother", refusing to leave her behind, however this makes Banga break down and she reminisces of all the sweet memories they share and the struggles they fought together. At last, she places her palm on the gate, declaring her motherly love for her daughter as she warps to Idea.
Immediately, the Kur Advance Unit enters the pyramid and declares that they are going to chase Bamora and regain the stolen suit. The leader threatens to torture Aja if Banga doesn't activate the slab, which only royal sumerians can decipher.
