Spirits (霊 Rei?) are deceased humans who have not crossed over to the afterlife and instead roam around amongst the living.
Overview
Naturally, spirits cannot be seen by humans who are not spiritually aware. Like the living and non-living, spirits possess auras that hold their existence, and without it, the spirit will crumble away into nothingness and will be forgotten by both the dead and the living. Spirits are attracted to things that possess great amounts of life force energy.
Relationship Amongst the Living
As a general rule, Spirit Mediums believe that the dead should not attack the living and that the living should not disrespect the dead, which is why they feel that it is necessary to use force in order to have spirits pass over to the afterlife. Though this was the case, spirits do not believe or follow such things set by human standards.
Classifications
Earthbound Spirits
Earthbound Spirits (地縛霊 Jibakurei?) are spirits who are unable to pass on into the afterlife due to having a strong attachment to a certain place. It is said to be impossible for a Spirit Medium to exorcise a earthbound spirit while they remain in their bound territory since their connection to that place makes them the strongest.
Yokai

Yokai (妖怪 Yōkai?, Literally meaning: Apparition), or Evil Spirits (悪霊 Akuryō?), are spirits who are hostile towards the living. These kinds of spirits have made themselves well-known amongst the living and are given aliases as a result so that humans become wary of their existence.
Guardian Spirit
A Guardian Spirit (護霊 Mamorurei?) is a term referred to by Seiko. While not much of this term has been elaborated on, it is implied, based on Mai Kawabanga, that it is a spirit who is bound to a human due to a desire they wish to have them fulfill before allowing themselves to pass over to the afterlife. While bound, the guardian spirit can offer their spiritual power to them.

Abilities and Powers
Possession: Spirits are capable of possessing the living, giving them the ability to freely control their bodies.
Immense Physical Capabilities: Spirits possess inhuman strength, speed and endurance. The Turbo Granny can run at a speed of 100 km/hr, while Acrobatic Silky's reflexes and agility allowed her to avoid being touched by Takakura in his Turbo Granny form.
Fusion: Two spirits can merge together to become one form if they form a pact.
Weaknesses and Termination
Since they can make physical contact with anything in the living world, spirits can be harmed by humans, objects, or substances. Aside from this, the only way to truly harm a spirit, or to have them exterminated, is through the use of spiritual items that causes them to be exorcised to the afterlife.
